Nap and cold, WWYD?

So we made it 14 months without DD getting a cold but she now has one. So here's my dilemma....

She recently transitioned to one nap a day (by her choosing). This morning she woke up at 4:45 and wouldn't go back to sleep. She has been waking up at about 6:00 for the past few days but occasionally she does wake up that early. She fell asleep in the car for about 30 minutes from about 9:15-9:45 when we left the doctor (and she fell asleep about a minute after we started driving and she was out!). She has been taking her nap from around 11 to 11:45 and then goes to bed around 6:30 and is asleep by 7 on a good night.

When she first transitioned to one nap, she would nap at about the time she did today (9:15-9:45) and then I couldn't get her to nap for the rest of the day. Also, there have been a few days recently (since we have been on our 11 am nap schedule) where she falls asleep in the car late in the afternoon 4ish and then I have a terrible time getting her to go to sleep at night even though she is obviously tired.

I am thinking I will try around 1:30 to see if she will take a nap but I am worried it will be tough especially since she is congested and can't suck her thumb quite like she would like. I am debating whether I should try her crib first or just go for a drive... If I try her crib, I will probably know within about 10 minutes if it is going to happen or not.

Would you?
A. Try to get her to nap in the crib and if it won't happen just give up.
B. Try the crib first and then go for a drive if that doesn't work
C. Don't even try the crib and just go for a drive. TIA!

Re: Nap and cold, WWYD?

  • I would just follow her lead!  If she's acting tired, put her down, I wouldn't worry about the time.  When DS has a cold, all bets are off.  If he naps, he naps.  If he goes to bed early, so be it.  Hopefully she gets over it soon. :)

  • I decided to do her nap routine and just give it a shot but follow her lead and not stress out or try to go for a drive if it doesn't happen. Yeah...she was totally not interested. As I was putting her down, she was playing with my hair, playing peek a boo, pointing at the flowers on her sheets...

Hopefully, this will mean an easy and early bedtime!
