Acupuncture?

Is anyone doing acupuncture in the first trimester?

I used to go regularly but I haven't been since I found out I was expecting. I'm a little nervous that it might harm something.

My appointment is tomorrow and I wonder if I should cancel.

Re: Acupuncture?

  • I went for acupuncture for my entire pregnancy with DS.  As long as you let them know you are pregnant, you should be fine

  • My acupuncturist is amazing.  She knows all the places to hit and not to hit...I'm thinking of going to see her about this ridiculous nausea, but I'm afraid she'll put needles in those spots in my wrists.  :S

  • I also heard that acupuncture is great for MS!

  • As a chiropractor and licensed acupuncturist, it's perfectly safe as long as they know you're pregnant. Just so you know, they should not needle these points: spleen 6 (on the inside of the leg above the ankle), Large Intestine 4 (in the crease made when you squeeze your thumb to your pointer) and Kidney 1 (on the bottom of your foot). There are actually points that should be treated once per trimester to give the baby more room, and points that anesthetize the pelvis during delivery where you don't need an epidural. Didn't try it with my daughter, but hopefully will this time.
