Sleeping: Have I screwed up?

The boys are now 17 weeks and have slept then entire time in their own bassinets. I wanted to transition them to a crib for them to share. They seem to be ready to roll over now whenever I put them down. Is it too late to put them in the same crib? Do I need some kind of special separator? How do I get them used to a crib when they are used to the closeness of the bassinet? Did I screw up by not doing this sooner?

  • You have absolutely not screwed up! I transitioned to cribs around 3 months too, and it went smoothly. Agree with MrsLee, could you let them each have their own crib?

  • I unfortunately already assembled one crib in a small room of the house (i would have to take it apart to move it)and don't have the 2nd crib assembled. Can I separate them with a rolled up blanket like I do in the PnP?

  • I agree with MrsLee. We never used a bassinett. My boys slept together in 1 large (standard sized) crib until  2 months. We didn't use a separatetor and at that point they were bumping heads by the middle of the night and waking each other up. Once we separated them into separate cribs they slept longer. I think yours are probably too big to start one crib at this point. Might as well skip another transition from sharing a crib to separate cribs too.

  • I wouldn't put them together. They're used to having their own space, and they will move more in their sleep because of it. It sounds like it will be a pain to get both cribs set up in a good space, but it will be worth it. Just think, they get more sleep at night, YOU get more sleep at night! Whoo-hoo!
