Packing for 10 day trip

I'm right in the middle of packing everything for our trip to PA. I am pretty overwhelmed with everything... So, to all of you who have traveled with your LOs:

Did you bring everything you needed? Was there anything that slipped your mind when packing? What did you bring that did not get used? Any tips for traveling/flying with LOs that hasn't been said over and over?

Thanks! :)

Re: Packing for 10 day trip

  • Its hard to say what you can and can't live without, but fair to say there are stores and malls in PA so don't overthink it... my rule of thumb has been 2 outfits a day (sometimes we don't need them both so they are good for the days when we need 3!) and fresh PJs every 2nd day... if you are staying with family you can do a load at the halfway point (and maybe before you go home so you have clean clothes to unpack).....

  • Wear baby in the airport. Makes life much easier. I agree with @credcat7 about the outfits. If you are taking a pack n play, take an extra sheet for that. I always bring a thermometer and Tylenol just in case they were to get a fever in the middle of the night. I haven't had my coffee yet so I'll get back to you if I think of anything else.

  • I second babywearing and bringing the tylenol.  I've flown with DS1 3 times and DS2 2 times, including a 3 1/2 week trip for DH's work. Don't go crazy with your packing because you will have stores just in case, but make sure to bring the recommended outfits that @credcat7 said.  If you do disposables, I always packed the average number per day for the trip and then added 5-7 more just in case.  Same goes for night diapers.
If you're flying, I would honestly wait until the absolutely last minute to board the plane.  It sounds great to preboard and get settled in, but both of mine were fussy with having to get up and down to have people sit down/standing in the jetway.  We were the last ones on both of our flights last week and it worked out great.

  • We went to Peru for a very short visit. Baby wearing is just essential for us since there was no safe sleeping arrangement there. It also was wonderful for the airport. The stroller was good for transporting all the bags of baby stuff.

  • Thank you all! :) Your suggestions were all helpful. Family will be supplying diapers, wipes, formula, a PnP and high chair, thankfully, for us there.
