So, so sad (warning, child death)

I just can't stop thinking about it. At the school I've taught at for the past decade (but not there this year), a little 3 or 4 year old girl darted away from her mother and ran out into the traffic of the pick-up line, a car hit her, and she died today. I know the parent who hit her. The report on the news said the driver was turning into the lot and didn't see the girl dart into traffic. She was going less then maybe 10-15 mph. Probably waaay less knowing how crowded it is in that line. The entire school sits out on the curb after school to be picked up by parents and all those kids witnessed it. My friend who was my co-worker was there holding the kid while she died. So, so awful for everyone involved. They will have extra counselors at the school tomorrow. It's the first week of school. I know they are strangers, but thoughts and prayers towards them today please. What a tragic accident.

My heart aches for them. My DD is a bolter and wanderer due to her ASD. This is my biggest fear.

OMG. How horribly tragic. I know it doesn't help much, but you have given me a harsh reminder to be slow and vigilant in the car line. I'm only a week into the whole experience, but I think I have already been more concerned with getting my daughter in and getting out of the way fast so as fast as possible, but I need to keep my head present.

( not saying driver wasn't , but I think my focus has been misplaced.)
