IUGR moms? I need advice.

Hi ladies, I am a FTM, 26 weeks, and being followed closely for IUGR with no explanation yet. I'm on modified bedrest and going in weekly for ultrasound. I was transferred to a hospital with an excellent NICU because they say it is likely I will deliver pre term. I haven't gotten enough answers re: just how pre term I should expect... I want to know if anyone else has or is having this experience and when do they say you will deliver, or when did you. I'm sure every baby is different but I'm looking for a range so I can sleep at night. Thanks in advance!

  • Thank you! I like to hear that I'm not the only one to go trough this.

  • Like Boston said it will vary on depending several different things.  My twins had a condition where one wasn't getting enough blood flow and had restricted growth.  His cord blood flow went from absent to reversed and that was when they decided to deliver them at 28w4d.  He was watched closely for IUGR and stayed around the 10% (under 10% is considered IUGR) for weeks.  Our plan was to get them far enough along as we safely could and my Dr. wanted to deliver by 34 weeks due to the risks.  Every situation is different so ask lots of questions.  They may not be able to give you exact answers but at least give some expectations.  Good luck!
  • I delivered at 34 weeks with IUGR due to pre-e.  My LO was below 3rd percentile at birth.  I almost delivered at 32 weeks but they were able to get my BP under control enough that they believed the baby would be getting nutrients.  2 weeks later I was back in L&D with obscenely high BP that they couldn't control and Owen arrived very shortly after being admitted.

Good luck to you and your little one!  Hospitals with excellent NICU's are generally excellent hospitals, so I'm sure you're in great hands.

  • With dd1 I had pre- e and IUGR and delivered at 35 weeks. With dd2 I had IUGR and high blood pressure and delivered at 37w2d. I had us 2x a weeks starting at 34 weeks to check growth and the umbilical cord and placenta.

  • My DS was born at 32 weeks via c-section...I had absent/reverse blood flow to the placenta, and then I developed severe pre-e, so they had to deliver him...he weighed 2 lbs. 9 oz.  I think every case is different though...I have a friend whose DD was IUGR and born at 37 weeks and she weighed a little over 4.5 lbs. and spent no time in the NICU.
