Diaper smells like a perm

Yea. So. Today when baby boy goes poop, it smells chemically or like a perm. Yea, I was an 80's child. That smell is ingrained in my nose!! We just switched diaper brands from huggies to pampers. Could it be that? I change his diaper as soon as he goes- I don't let it sit ... its quite loud so i know when he goes!! Or is it something else?? Anybody else gone through this?? It's just odd that's only poopy diapers. I don't know what to think could be wrong.

Could it be something you ate that he then got from your milk? If the consistency and color are okay, I'm betting it's probably fine. I can't really say anything though, DH swears S smells like ham and cheese with mustard when she poops so I think they've all got their own unique "smell"

LO's poopy diaper smelled like popcorn a couple weeks ago. My H SOOO wanted to disagree with me, but he knew I was right. It was so freaking random.

It's the diapers. We use Pampers Swaddlers and once she pees, we can smell a chemical smell. It's not terribly noticeable, though.

Yup. I hate the way the disposables smell when lo goes, especially poo. I didn't realize it was a brand thing, because I used the Pampers Swaddlers.

My LO's poop always smells like buttered popcorn!!! It's to the point I'm not sure ill be able to eat it again...DH swears he can't smell it though!

Totally the diapers! We've been using Pampers Swaddlers from birth, but have a rouge pack of Huggies that we try to use every once in a while before she grows out of them, and they smell incredibly different! Personally, I gag at the smell the Huggies make, probably because I'm used to the Pampers smell. It's like Huggies make her BM and pee smell really sweet. Gah. Now that I think about it, Pampers do have a bit of a chemical smell.

I've never noticed a perm smell with the swaddlers... If anything I sometimes smell pee but that is it.
