NYC with the kids-Am I nuts?

DH is going up to Rochester, NY to pick up SD tomorrow and she will be staying with us until Saturday.  Then DH is supposed to take her to NYC to meet up with some friends and their parents.  We decided that, since it is my birthday, we would all go and make a day trip of it.  However, now that I am thinking about it, the logistics are overwhelming me.  We are going to take the train from here in NJ to Penn Station.  Then we may have to get on the subway once or twice to get SD where she needs to be and to wherever we want to go.  So here are the questions:

Should we take the double stroller?  Should we just take an umbrella stroller for DS and let DD walk?  Or maybe the umbrella stroller for DD and the Ergo for DS?

I hate to take my giant diaper bag but I have 2 in diapers, wipes, formula, snacks, etc.  Do you think a backpack would work?

We weren't going to try to do a whole lot, just stay for a few hours.  We are going to stop for lunch, anything else fun and manageable you guys can suggest?

TIA!  I'm starting to think I'm crazy to try to do this.

DH will have E in NYC Wed and Thursday. He will have a backpack, the Ergo, and our lightweight umbrella stroller. Granted it is only one kid, not two.

DH is planning on showing E Times Square, maybe going to the children's museum, and the park. And we will wander Central Park together on Friday.

We've gone in on the train & subway a couple times with both kids. I wore DD & DS walked for the most part & MH carried him the rest. We brought the umbrella stroller & both kids were in it at different points, but for the most part it wasn't practical b/c of stairs, escalators, turn styles, etc. I definitely would not bring the double stroller.

We used a backpack as a diaper bag & I wore it on my back while I wore DD on my front.

I'm not sure where in NYC you'll be, but your DD might like the TRU, FAO, Hershey store/Times Square Stuff.

I would do the Ergo and umbrella stroller. I can still wear James on my back in the Ergo so you can switch the kids around as needed.

Have DH wear the backpack.
