Benadryl dosage

My 16 month old has a rash all over his back, and stomach.  I'm thinking it's viral because he was running a low grade fever a few days ago.  I call the ped. office today and they said 1 tsp benadryl as directed on bottle which is 4 - 6 hours.  He weighs about 24 lbs.  I feel like 1 tsp is too much for him.   Of course my husband thinks I should just do what the doctor says and maybe I should but I just want some other mother's opinions. Thanks in advance!

    Dd was just prescribed 4ml (.8 tsp) at 22lb 12 oz today, so that seems about right.

    I was told 3/4 tsp for 17-21 lbs, so 1 tsp for your DS doesn't sound abnormal! Good luck!
