Re: Definitely Team Pink...and marker found for Downs

  • Congrats on Team Pink!! When my sister was pregnant with her DS, they found a soft marker for Downs on his heart, but everything turned out to be okay. Like you, it was the only marker they found. Sending positive vibes!

  • You all have seriously made me feel better. My brain was in hyper mode yesterday because of the marker, but after reading all these comments [and talking to my best friend, who is a NICU nurse], I feel a lot better.

I'll talk to my regular OB about doing more bloodwork, but I'm not sure if we'll do it. I think my odds are 1:516 or something like that, but again, it still won't change the fact that we just want little miss here and want to take her home. After last time, we're ready for ANY outcome but another late loss. MFM did mention that the marker isn't a heart defect and she should be fine; I go back at 28 weeks for another scan with him, and I'll find out next week if my regular OB will schedule a Level II here in my town.

Thanks so much for making me feel better!! H is now absolutely thrilled we're having a girl [he wasn't so happy at first], and I bought her first tutu already. :)

  • Glad you're feeling a bit better dear!  I will add that Brynn and Reid's never went away (I had u/s throughout the pregnancies) and they are completely healthy.  The u/s techs always joked that they just have an extra strong heart (the bright spot usually indicates extra muscle tissue) and I believe it :) I think the doctor I saw with both of them sees the EF all the time because I go to Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) and all of my u/s are level II's. With better machines, they pick up EVERYTHING, which is why EF's are becoming more common now.

Good luck in whatever you decide mama!

  • Congrats on a baby girl! Most likely everything will be fine!

My husband and I had a discussion about doing the genetic screenings, we decided against it, but did have concerns, one if which was downs. His mom( who is awesome!) is a professor for special need kids and really shed a new light on the possibility of having a baby with downs. She look at us and said.... "The wonderful thing about kids with down syndrom is they are very easy to love!... They will teach you so much" When we looked at it this way I felt better about our decision!
Just remember Your a good momma and you taking care of yourself, which means you taking care of your little girl the best you can! The rest is out of your control! I know it's hard not to worry!!! I've struggled with it a lot after having weeks of spotting through weeks 8-14 and 16. But your doing just fine... Thoughts and prayers everything will be beautiful! Congrats again! The tutu will be a hit:)
