Betas levels question

On 12 dpo my beta was 66, and today it has risen to 257 and I'm 15dpo. So glad it is rising well, but wondering if the big jump is likely to indicate multiples? I am quite new to all of this, never been pregnant before.

Re: Betas levels question

  • Great numbers congrats! I've asked this many times and was always told beta numbers really can't tell if it is twins or not. Have to wait for us. I compare my current pregnancy to my last beta numbers and this one had much higher jumps - but just one.

  • Beta levels are not really a good indication of multiples. Some have high numbers with a singleton and some can have lower numbers and have multiples. Your first ultrasound will give you answers. Great betas congrats!

  • Thanks! I actually am hopeful it is just one....

  • I agree 100% with imoverit. I've heard some mention the correlation between rapid doubling times and multiples, but I have no idea if that is based on anecdotal evidence or research and it wasn't true in my case. I also had two friends with nearly identical beta numbers as mine and they both had singletons.

FWIW, my betas never doubled in 48 hours (although I didn't get my first beta until it was over 700) and I had twins. GL!!
TTC in 2009, Dx: Unexplained IF
Three TI cycles (BFP...miscarriage), five IUI attempts and 2.5 IVF cycles later...BFP!!
    12dp5dt: 765; 15dp5dt: 1979; 17dp5dt: 3379...TWINS!!!!!
Our perfect baby boys were born at 36w1d!!

  • Congrats! My betas were always higher than the average for triplets, but there was only one in there! Baby might have just implanted early and gotten off to a good head start.

  • Congrats on your pregnancy.  We ladies always have a tendency to over analyze everything but I agree with everyone else, you can't tell from a beta if there are multiples or not.  Hope you see exactly what you want to see at your ultrasound.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
