nap dilemma/long term plan...

So...here i am with lo napping on my lap on the nursing pillow for her 'big' nap. I know i know...how can i go on with things if shes on me? But...if she naps on me she sleeps longer than in her bed. The long nap allows her a reasonable bedtime (9-7am) with a reasonable one time wakeup (4-5am). When she naps in bed its much shorter and messes our day and night for sleep. Shes just 5 months...i know i cant do this forever. Anyone in a similar situation that figured out a solution?

Re: nap dilemma/long term plan...

  • Our only solution was to sleep train - sorry if that's not what you want to hear! His naps still sometimes are short (45 minutes) but other times (like right now) they'll be 1 1/2 hours or more. Sleep training allowed him to put himself to sleep initially and also when he wakes between sleep cycles. Good luck!

  • I am still sort of in this situation. My Lo sleeps through the night usually 8:30-7. He for sure takes one nap about an hour after waking up in the a.m. then we started a rough schedule of a noon nap and another between 3-4, I get lucky some days, but It's really hit or miss. Today he took a 2 hr morning nap for the first time ever, but hasn't napped since and it's 4 pm. I was holding him for all naps up until a month ago too. He is also just 5 mo old. I still give him a bottle that basically knocks him out. Now I put a fan on and that has helped some. I have no words of advice, but thougght I'd let you know you're not alone.

  • LO still naps mostly in my arms too. I love it, and hate it. It can't go on forever though. I tried CIO one day and it was terrible. It works for us for nighttime, but naps are so much harder. I have no advice, just empathy. Let me know if you figure something out!

  • My daughter falls asleep on me, but once she is asleep for like 10-15 minutes I can transfer her to her crib. The first few weeks she woke up and I'd pick her up and get her to sleep again, now she just settles herself. If her nap is shorter than 45 minutes, I pick her up and get her to fall asleep again, then transfer her to crib once sleeping. I would say try this before going with any sort of CIO!
