January 2014 Moms

Oh the joys...

...of living in Iowa in August. Triple digits, schools letting out early from the heat, and it's going to last all week. And no rain still.

So, what do you NOT like about where you live?

  • Illinois here, so basically just the bipolar weather. It has been pleasant the last couple of days, but overall, the weather here sucks!

And not to mention our corrupt (and, sadly, infamous) state government.

  • Never knowing what to predict! 2 years ago we had a huge snowstorm in October, when DH and I had taken a trip to go see fall colors on Skyline Drive...then last year I don't think we had any snow until like January or February. I don't particularly like the miserable snow in the winter in NE PA...But at least I don't have to drive to work in it this year! No more cleaning off my car at 5 AM! Something to look forward to!

AMEN to that! I like the changing of seasons honestly...unless we have torrential downpours and our basement floods...again.

  • Completely unpredictable weather.  I feel like I have to carry a jacket and umbrella at all times and keep a full change of clothes in my car.  Just never know in Ohio.  Blizzards in April and no snow in Dec/Jan...and its never the same from year to year.

We Ohioans can experience all four seasons in one week!!!! Had a day in JANUARY that was 70 degrees and then in August we got down into cold cold temps!! But I love Ohio :)
  • BC, Canada. The price of housing!!!
  • @marbee1214 Amen on Ohio weather.

Also, the road construction. It is getting out of hand. And is never ending. The amount of money this state puts into road construction is obscene yet the roads are still crap and never seem to get finished.

I can't complain too much about southern Missouri's weather. We did have sleet and snow in May, but its always about 10 degrees cooler than were I am originally from. (Southwestern Arkansas). We seem to become less sick up here too. Especially DS, even with him going to preschool half days, 3 days a week. The wind can be crazy though! It also blows my mind how much cheaper our taxes are here and things in general.
  • Where I'm living right now we have high 90's or low 100's with 100% humidity all summer and it rains all winter. Can't wait to get out of here

I grew up in OH, and I remember having a snow day off from school and I was out in a teeshirt in 80+ degree weather the next day!

I'm currently in SC so Hot. Rain. Hot. Rain. We've had record amounts of rain this year. It's been terrible! We've had basically all of the heat without the summer.

  • @AshleyM0125: Could you send some rain this way? We had a horrible drought last year, flooding this spring, and now back to drought. Our crops are not doing well :(

  • @MrsGraham06 I severely wish I could. It has rained so much that we are having septic issues! Our yard keeps flooding and our grass is rediculously high, but it won't dry enough for us to cut it! Please take it- take it all!!!

lol nice!  well...i can reassure you that there are no plans to have 10 kids here :)  but yes there aren't very many people here, which is good an bad.  I do like it for the most part.  although i did go maternity clothes shopping and i find that it's a huge waste of time for the most part.  There are only like 3 racks of clothes per store, with like 3 stores, and all the Small sizes are gone, or they don't get them in.  /sigh...

I have to shop in Colorado. Being a Cali transplant, even after 3 years I'm still not quite used to the lack of stores here. Although, I am happy we have Once Upon A Child in Cheyenne and Casper. I prefer the one in Casper, purplepenguin, if you have never hit those before...you might not be close enough.

  • I'm in NE Ohio and the our winters are getting to be pretty lame the last couple of years.  We used to get bombarded with snow to the point that I was ready for snow to be gone and to see some green/brown grass.  Now, we're lucky if we have 2 or 3 good snow falls a year that cover the ground.  And if the snow sticks around for more than a day, bonus!  But what I hate about it is that just because it's not snowing doesn't mean it's not raining.  Three words...Wet. Puppy. Paws!

Samesies. Although this one has been super mild! I still can't wait for fall. I think more than ANYTHING in this area I hate the traffic. I'm north of DC in MD and today was back to school so traffic is about to blowwwwww.

  • I'm in Vancouver BC and if you've been here, you (likely) know how awesome it is.  I love every single, teeny, tiny thing about it.

Except the price / cost of living.  It's like highway robbery just to get groceries and let's not even start on house prices *sigh*

Yep this - and by cold I mean really cold - but also damp so it really chills your bones.  I've been telling myself that this year I'm just going to stay in my flannel sheets and cuddle with baby!

  • Another Pacific Northwest girl here (north of Seattle but south of Vancouver) and thankfully I get more Canadian weather than Seattle weather so the rain isn't quite as bad but being a transplant from MT I still am a bit annoyed by the dampness whether it is the crackers getting soggy in my pantry or my clothes starting to smell musty when they sit in the closet...sigh.
