Starting over :(

Well, we thought we had our names all figured out (team green).....until a family member had a baby last week and used our girl name  

Still debating on whether we can use the name as well (Lydia).  I would really like to since that name really kind of "clicked" for me, but my husband thinks we shouldn't.  I am really trying to come up with other suggestions, but nothing is winning me over.  I really stress myself out over names, so going back to "square one" really scares me!  

1.  Do you think we can still use the name if it is not an immediate family member but is a fairly close friend to both of our families?  

2.  Any other name suggestions that we can consider?  (Daughter is Alaina)

If Lydia is THE name, then stick with it! I have an Alisa and an Alyssa in my family, only a few years apart, and guess what, it's no big deal!

They would have different last names, so I keep trying to convince myself that it would be OK!

Just out of curiosity... Did she know that was the name you wanted to use?

I probably wouldn't use it, ESP since they'll be so close in age. Unless you only see them once a year or so.

What attracted you to Lydia? The a ending? The # of syllables? The biblical nature? The meaning?

Honestly, I would use it.  If that were my favorite name, and I had it planned the whole time and was attached... I would be so disappointed not to use it, and I would regret not doing so.

We really liked Lydia because it is a good fit with Alaina.  And we didn't have any in either of our families...yet

If it were my niece or nephew's name, I wouldn't use it.. If it were some cousin's kid whom we barely saw, I'd use it.

Eh, it just depends on your relationship. My family is all very close, we all grew up in the same town/area, and I wouldn't use a name my cousins used just because we're still very close. On the flipside, DH's family is all spread out and he barely knows his cousins; I don't think we'd think twice about using the same name as them if it was something we loved. It's probably fine to use it unless your DH is REALLY uncomfortable about it.

I would have a tough time using it.  What about Sylvia?  It seems kind of similar to me.
