  • At the risk of being the rain cloud on your delicious dessert parade...it's not made for pregnant women at all, because soft serve ice cream is on the list of no-no's for pregnant gals for the same reason as lunch meat, risk of listeria. Better stick to hard ice cream if you're a rule follower, and not everyone is, in that case....eat up! :)

I know.. I just hate when DH tells me I can't have something.. Now you have me asking Dr Google about soft serve, and he's never nice. ;)

Those soft serve machines are cleaned thoroughly and often. My DH used to work at McD's in high school and said they had to be emptied and cleaned daily, then refilled. I really really really wouldn't worry about this.... Do it for the ice cream!! I mean, when was the last time you heard about a listeria outbreak in soft serve?

  • Beware of the milkshake machines at gas stations too. I thought they were self cleaning but apparently not. I got terrible food poisoning a few months ago that I am almost certain was listeria. I avoid soft serve when pregnant now as well.

Is it really hard for you to go out to eat anywhere now after seeing restaurant kitchens?I think that would be a hard job, knowing how gross and/or unsanitary your favorite restaurants are!

Sigh... Haven't been to a Friendly's in years since we don't have them where I live now, but that was my go-to sundae growing up!
  • Didn't mention soft serve in the article. I think I'll not worry about that for now.

  • i had wondered about that too...  i heard it was a risky food (but only after delivering my son, of course... go figure!) and i wondered if someone would bring it up.

frostys are SO good, though.  i'm a food/ingredient snob, but i'll make an exception for that deliciousness :)
  • I read that soft serve is a no no some time last week. I LOVE soft serve so idk what I'm gonna do when I'm in the mood. I know. Ill just treat myself to my favorite Haagen Dazs. That'll make up for it.
  • Eff that. I'll take the risk.
  • Are McDonald's milk shakes allowed? I know the rule about mr whippy ice cream but not sure about the milk shakes!
  • I'd heard about no frozen yogurt, especially at fast food places. I've been not eating much dairy the last month, so I've sort of gotten beyond my cravings for it. I might just investigate on how to make your own since I have an ice cream machine. We'll see how it goes over the next 9 months, though. I do love some frozen yogurt :)

@Teresa1896 - the simple answer is: yes. I'm constantly on guard when we go out to eat... it sucks.
    :(
