Weight loss tips...

I know the old saying "it took nine months to put on, it will take nine months to lose it", but I feel as though I am getting no where.  My main struggle is my stomach.  It really took a beating with an almost 9 lb baby.  I've been doing sit ups but I am having trouble getting it to go down.  I even took a pregnancy test yesterday bc I feel like it is at a stand still, lol.  My DD was only 6 lbs so I bounced right back after.  Anyone have any weight/exercise tips?  Has anyone else been working on shedding the baby weight yet?

Re: Weight loss tips...

  • I've been working on it, but I have a loooong way to go. I think some women will never lose the post pregnancy belly completely by natural means no matter how hard they try. Do you think it's fat or just stretched out?

  • I'm finding it much harder this time around too. :( I feel like its just a second baby thing and will take more work this time around.

  • any flab that you have on your stomach is caused by food only.  Yes, ab workouts help, but if you don't change what you eat, you will never get a nice flat tummy.  I would cut out all breads (yes, really!) and fatty foods.  Drink water only, lots of veggies and lean protein.  The combination of lower fat eating and ab workouts will help.

if you're already doing those things...try incoporating a cardio routine into your exercise PLUS the ab workouts.  Even if you only have one target area, your whole body works to get healthy and be in shape together

Just out of curiosity...how is it JUST fat. I had a flat stomach before having my twins and now my stomach looks pretty darn close to the way it was but there is a lot of loose skin that literally pinches like skin and is not thick at all between. My OB told me that the only way it was going anywhere was to have skin removal surgery.

  • I think some basic Pilates will get in there and do some good work to pull things back together in the ab region. They work deep into the core where normal crunches won't get it. At least that's what I'm starting to do. Obv. losing weight will help some w/the "fluff" :) I started WW the beginning of July and have lost 10lbs! It's a great program and I really recommend it. Their app makes life and food choices so easy!
  • I found a lot of success by cutting nearly all processed foods from my diet. Really sticking to good wholesome foods. Lots of veggies, lean meats, fruits, and water, water, water. Cutting all sugary drinks from my diet helped a lot. I tried to get really creative with my water, adding cucumber, fruits, anything that would jazz it up.

I also did more than sit ups. I did a lot of front and side planks. I also suggest picking up the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred dvd. It's about a 20 minute workout, you don't need to have hand weights, but you can just pick up some cheap hand weights at target and do this quick but challenging workout right in your living room. It has helped me a lot.

I second WW.  I started it in mid July and am down ~6 lbs, only 2-3 to go til pp weight.  Just in time to have to fit into my work clothes.  It's the easiest way to lose weight I know of, and the only time I've ever been able to.  I have the online only subscription.

Unfortunately there's a difference between a pp body of a mother of twins and just one baby.

I think it's both. I can't really diet crazy since I'm breast feeding. I hope it goes down more with time. It's so frustrating!

  • FYI- WW takes into account if you are BF.
  • Twins or not my baby was big... And my belly bigger! I have so much extra skin (even with only having one baby) that I have given up on the idea of ever being able to show my stomach again. That not to say that i wont try to make it look flat again in clothes. My body with clothes on is very different than my body with clothes off. Haha.

  • Yeah, it isn't JUST fat --I have lots of loose skin on my stomach leftover from losing a great deal of weight years ago,and only surgery will fix it. Which is depressing.I ran a damn marathon and still havea flabby gut!
