My son will be 6 months soon and we are going to start him on baby food.. What is the best items to start on.. Greens? Squash? Carrots? Fruits? Let me know what you suggest
Our pedi said only orange and yellow veggies for the first 2 weeks at 6 months. I plan to start with carrots then do sweet potato, butternut squash, and maybe pumpkin. Since I'm going to do just one food for a few days at a time to make sure DD doesn't have a reaction to anything, that should take me through the first 2 weeks and then I'll try broccoli, peas, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, etc.
I started with avocado, which my baby didn't like much. I think as long as it is one of those stage one single fruit or vegetable purees it will be fine.
From what I've read, it doesn't REALLY matter, as long as it's a single ingredient and age-appropriate. I don't know why so many people say their pedis specify certain veggies first or a certain order. This site tells the ages that it's okay to start certain foods: https://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com/
It also says there isn't really any truth to needing to start veggies before fruits or else baby will only want sweet fruits. We started with banana, then avocado, and when we moved onto peas, LO still loved those.
We did rice cereal. We started carrots first but he didn't like them much. We did bananas next but he got the red allergy anal ring so we will try them again later. Next was sweet potatoes. They've been a HUGE hit. He adores them and seems to tolerate them great. This week we moved from rice cereal to oatmeal as well. We do a new offering every Sunday. Tonight we will try squash.

We started with rice cereal which gave my LO so constipation. Oatmeal seems to be going much better. I am also adding apple juice or prune juice to thin the cereal out in order to keep him regular. It has cut down on his cramping and he seems to feel better. Next we are doing the mixed cereal and will then start sweet potatoes, acorn squash, bananas, and avocado (each of them 1 week apart).
Just stay away from high acid fruits like all citrus, pineapple, strawberries, and tomatoes. They are a bit harsh on the baby's tummy.
