raisins ???

So DS is with his grandparents today and I just got a text that he "had some raisins with his lunch" (which was supposed to be puree sweet potato and some finger food banana).
Huh??? they seem hard and unsafe.
Does anyone feed raisins yet?
DS typically eats purees and super soft finger foods (banana, avocado, ripe peach, etc).

Re: raisins ???

  • no! they are a serious choking hazard.  Don't let them do it.

  • Yeah, I would simply explain to them that some foods are not safe, they just don't break down when they eat them, and are more chewy than squishy. Ugggh, I'm sorry about family doing that, glad that LO's ok though!

  • Why do people think its okay to just give other people's babies whatever they want? Ugh. Sorry that happened.

  • So I picked him up and was ready to explain that he isn't quite ready for that texture yet and she explained that she wasn't "feeding" him raisins, but there were some in the Mrs. Fields cookie he was eating.

    omg.

    that's. not. any. better.

I said I'd bring some of his treats (puffs) over next time so he can have a snack after his meal like the big people...

I am still thankful they help out so much, but they scare me sometimes !!!
  • Omg a cookie?! Sounds like my aunt an uncle. My cousin's baby is 7 weeks younger than Amelia and they wanted to feed her cake when she was 2mos old...thankfully they didn't, but my uncle is very "I'm the grandpa and I'll do whatever I want!"

So, puffs sound like a good idea! Good luck! I could holler at 'em for ya if you'd like, haha.

  • Sounds like my parents.   A few weeks ago, my mom was watching my son and sends me a pic of a red-stained face with the caption of I LIKE JELLO!  Granted it's not a chokeable food, but still not in his "menu" yet.
When I talked to my mom later, I asked her to hold off on feeding him things he's never had before.  And she was like "I dont see the big deal, it was sugar free"....

Ugh! Sugar free foods usually have the sugar substitute Aspartame! Even worse!

My mom, thankfully, understands the concept of only feeding DS foods that she is aware that he has had before or that I provide. I sat down with all of my family members that watch DS and shared my plans for how and when I want to introduce what foods and why.

My ugh food story happened just today. I got home from taking our dogs to their checkup and found Cheese-It crumbs ALL over the coffee table.... and DS's face. Apparently DS got a hold of the almost empty box, spilled it on the table, and proceeded to smash everything!! Eating some in the process of course. DH said, "He likes Cheese-Its" Are you serious? You can SEE the salt on those crackers.
