Im not one to take any meds...period. Pregnant or not. My DD and I went to the doctors yesterday and were both diagnosed with strep. So, they prescribed a Zpac. I hate taking meds but I need some relief. Has anyone else ever taken this while pregnant?

ETA: Did you have any side effects?

  • I didn’t have to take it while pregnant but my best friend had to take it during her pregnancy.
  • Did she have any side effects?

  • I took a one time dose of Zithromax and had a one time case of extreme diarrhea. That was it, though. Happened about 3 hours after taking the pill, and then all was well.

  • Okay, so far Ive been in the clear as far as that goes. Lol. :-)
  • She didn’t that I know of. She had to take zofran her entire pregnancy though (which causes constipation) so she definitely didn’t have to worry about having diarrhea lol

(I’m sure it is strange that I know all this but what are best friends for! :) )
  • I took it while pregnant for a sinus infection. I had no side effects that I can remember. Had 2 healthy babies.

  • I have less than 4 weeks left...I just didnt want it to cause some kind of contractions or something. I guess thats what I was worried about most.
  • I had zpac for a bad sinus infection 5 weeks ago. Cleared me up fast. No problems since.

  • Thank you all for reassuring me that this wont cause any kind of side effects and that Im fine to be taking it. Im actually on day 2 now and feel 90 times better than I did just yesterday with the first dose.

I haven't given birth yet... but I started my pregnancy with a zpack. Sinus infection.

My boys are still holding on at 36w, 5d... and they measured 6-10 and 6-3 last thursday. Nothing showed up on my anatomy scan as abnormal.

The doctor told me that it was fine during pregnancy and followed it up with "just remember, you staying healthy helps your baby stay healthy"

  • Katie, you are so close! How are you feeling? Thanks again for the reassurance! Im only 34+3 but as we all know, it could be anyday at this point. I think I would rather be taking these meds and be healthy when the boys arrive so that, if Im able to, I can cuddle them. If Im sick, especially with premies, Im certain that they wouldnt let me near them. Thanks again and I hope youre feeling well!

It shouldn't give you any kind of contractions.  My was put on hospital bedrest at 30 weeks because Twin A's water broke.  They had me on 2 different kinds of IV antibiotics for 5 days  on top of an oral antibiotic for 7 days.  I had no side effects other than a stomach ache from so much of it.  I was being closely monitored by an MFM while I was in there.  They would have never given me anything that was unsafe for me or the babies while I was admitted.

  • Thank you for sharing that, Legallyblonde. Ive had a bit of a stomach ache after I take them but that happens to me with ALL meds, which is why I almost refuse to take them most of the time. Im taking it on a full stomach too, with milk. Lol. Other than that, the only other issue is that I need to drink more water bc it seems to make me have this dry cough, which then makes my bathroom breaks every 1-1.5 hrs through the night instead of every 2-3. Lol. If this is it, Im 100% okay with it because Im feeling so much better now. I appreciate hearing your story!! Just another thing to put my mind at ease. Thanks again!
