Sad day (vaguely)

In the grand scheme of life, this isn't so bad.  But E's favorite (and our favorite!) day care teacher is leaving.  Today is her last day.  I am very happy for her that she is moving onward and upward.  But she will be greatly missed.  Leaving E at day care was such a hard thing to do.  But knowing this teacher was there, and how much E loved her made it much easier.  She babysits E from time to time as well, and has told us that she will still do so.  So that's great.  I will never forget the first time she came to our house to watch E.  She was 4 months old,, and she looked up and saw the teacher, looked at me, looked around the house, looked back at the teacher, and was so excited.  She seemed very confused like, but you're my school teacher, but you're at my house, that's awesome! 

I wonder how E will do -- if she will notice that she's gone and miss her?  I know she notices that my parents are gone after they have come to visit us, and misses them when they are gone.

We got her a thank you note -- is that enough?  Would a small gift be silly?

When LO was at the previous daycare center her teacher left (and was one of the reasons we moved her) she didn't really notice she was one the following days/weeks. She did however remember her when she came to visit several weeks later before she moved out of the area.

We gave her a card and a Calla Lily plant on her last day.

Hope E adjusts well to the new teacher.

I'm sorry she's leaving E's school. It's so wonderful that you have her available as a sitter! I think a small gift and card would be very appropriate. Hallmark has cards that you could put E's hand/foot prints in

Stinks when you lose those you like and trust. I would do a tiny gift. Do you think you will see her for babysitting now that she is leaving?

That is too bad. Hopefully E is getting more confident and will adjust to a new teacher soon.

I am sorry to hear E's favorite teacher is leaving. I know the sad feeling from when we left our first daycare. You grow to love their teachers so it's hard when they leave. I don't think a small gift is silly at all. I hope she does well and grows to love her new teacher(s)!

I don't think a small gift would be silly at all. It is difficult to say goodbye to the people who have such a positive role in our children's lives. (((hugs)))

I like pp's suggestions of a plant to go along with the card you purchased. I hope the adjustment isn't too difficult for E and that she can continue to have a great relationship with her teacher through babysitting.

That stinks! We love S's teacher so I can understand why it makes you sad. Love the idea of a card and plant. I hope E adjusts easily to her new teacher!

As a teacher, I always love star.bucks or dunkin.donuts gift cards. It's so sweet of you to think of your daughters favorite teacher!

Thanks everyone. We're thinking of going ahead and moving her up to the next class since her favorite teacher is gone. I'm just really nervous about the idea of only one nap, yikes!
