Teething Fever

Do any of your LO's get a fever with teething? DS has never really had teething symptoms before so I'm not really sure what to look for.

DS has had a low fever hovering around 101 for 2 days. He's been working on a molar for several weeks. I think I felt a tiny bit of the tooth when I was feeling this morning but I didn't feel anything tonight. He is drooling crazy amounts in his sleep and has a slightly runny nose. He is acting grumpy and clingy. He acts pretty normal if I give him Tylenol but before that he seems really tired and only wants to be held.

Teething has never been like this for him but he doesn't have any other symptoms and is eating and drinking normally.

Does this sound like something more than teething? I'm thinking about calling his pedi tomorrow but am hesitant because they always advise an appointment no matter what the symptoms are and I hate the thought of taking him to the doctor for just teething. If this were your kid would you take him in?

Re: Teething Fever

  • DD always runs a low fever of around 100 when cutting teeth. Her pedi said not to worry about it if it isn't a high fever. The inflammation from the teeth cutting through can trigger an immune response. Hope your LO feels better soon.

  • Thanks! Well he woke up fever free and acting normal this morning so I bet it was the tooth.

We love our pedi but man I wish I could call her with simple questions like these without being told he HAS to be seen! We like to take a wait and see approach to most illnesses and they make that kind of difficult to do.

  • DD gets a low grade fever, diaper rash, and diarrhea every time she cuts a tooth.   Our pedi said to just ride it out and to make her as comfortable as we can.
