Do you read a book to LO before bed?

I know I should be reading a book to LO every night before bed but she is such a busy body. Even if we go to her room and it is quiet, she is distracted by any item near her rocking chair. Or she reverts to eating the pages. In turn I just give her a kiss and plop her in her crib for the night. Am I the only one? Do you read to LO every night?

  • I read with DD during the day, but hardly before bed. DS on the other hand, reads several books before bed - it's just two different routines.

  • We read two or three board books. We talk about the animals and colors. It's really to squash my mom guilt for being away from her all...

Yep. DS2 doesn't sit still long enough. DS1 gets several books at bedtime. I started doing it more with big kid around a tee when we no longer do the bottle at bedtime.

  • We read several books as well. I just let her turn the pages and read whatever she opens it too, If she just wants to chew on the book, I give her a board book and read a different one.

  • We do a book goal, same thing that we would be doing if she was still in school (her school had a book club like the library runs in the summer) 5 books a day worked in whenever we can.

  • We read books before nap and bedtime. Ds1 LOVES books and we read several. I voted SS because we don't always read DS2's books to him but he'll be prowling in DS1s room while I read books. Sometimes he looks at the pages other times he's pulling ds1's pjs out of the drawer.

  • W is a pretty big bookworm so we look at books pretty frequently throughout the day. We usually do one before naptime and bedtime but if he's not cooperating I don't push it since we do plenty of other reading.

  • No I suck.

+1...I have the best of intentions, I really do.

This is one of those things that I swore I would do with my son.  My mom did it with me and I love reading myself to sleep even now.  I'm just worn the eff out at the end of the day.  I know- excuses, excuses.

  • I put SS because I used to read her "On the Night You Were Born" before bed, but her routine was too long and she was always too antsy. So now I recite it to her as I'm drying her off after the bath.

I'd like to read actual books soon, maybe when the final nursing session is gone, and read or tell longer stories when she's older.
  • DH reads him 3-4 books every night before bed. Our routine is diaper change, books, bottle, bed. He doesn't see him during the day, so he's always done the bedtime routine. DS LOVES books and will "read" them to himself several times throughout the day if he finds one.
  • I read at least one "night time" book to her before bed. She is antsy, and it makes her excited, sure, but I just squish her close and read. :D She loves to grab the book with me.

  • I put most nights. I read to her before every nap. And the nights I don't read, I sing to her.
  • Our sleep routine for nap and night involves a book. I very rarely stray from our routine because I worry that it will mess up sleep. Unless he sleeps in the car, we read a book. I have a couple that are unbelievably short so when it's already past nap time, we read one of the shortest books ever. If he is losing it, we fast forward or stop early, but we always read, even if its only the title and a page or two.

He is past the eating book stage, at least for now. Several times a day he pulls out his books and reads them.

  • DD gets one board book read to her before each nap and bedtime.  It's actually the easiest time to read to her because she's already lying in her crib when I start the book, so she's not moving all over the place and she generally just hugs her lovie and occasionally turns the pages.

I try to read longer books to her during the day, but she usually tries to rip the pages or crawl off or is playing with other toys or pulling books out of the bookcase.  I know she still hears it, but it's touch or go whether she gets 1/4th of a book or 4 books at times like that...

  • Bedtime is usually not good for L, she's too wiggly and distracted and just wants her bottle. We read during the day.

  • I chose SS. We read to DS' every night. DD just wants to eat and pass out at bed time. When she's a bit older, we will read to her too.

  • We read to both girls before bed.  We started doing it when Jocelyn was born and have carried it on with Corinne.  I have always loved to read and I hope the girls grow to love to read as well.
