Smoothies

Anyone have any good recipes to share? Or a site to find recipes? I've never made smoothies before and want to start trying it out. Thanks!

I always buy the frozen fruit from Costco, they have mixed tropical and mixed berries. Then add spinach and water! Blend :) if you use frozen fruit you don't need ice. EDIT: I'm lactose intolerant so that's why I don't include any yogurt/milk... My husband adds Greek yogurt to his to make it creamier

No real recipe but I use about 5-6 strawberries, sometimes maybe 1/3 of a banana, about 1/3 cup of Greek yogurt, sometimes a splash of milk to make it a little less thick, and about a teaspoon of sugar or honey. That's my typical smoothie. :)

BTW, immersion blenders ROCK for making smoothies. I don't even have a traditional blender anymore.

ETA: You can use regular plain yogurt too, but I prefer the Greek both for the texture and for the additional protein.

  • I usually use the frozen berries (maybe a cup?) put in my almond milk, and strawberry/berries yogurt.  Some ladies add sugar, but I would encourage you to try it without first (if you're not doing plain yogurt) there is already sugar in there!

  • I usually do mainly spinach then add in a couple different fruits.  Usually banana and strawberries, but sometimes apples, blueberries.  Either water or some milk.   If you're not already adding spinach, don't be afraid!  When you add fruit you can barely taste the spinach, it just looks freakish and green.  Start out with a little bit and gradually increase. Fruits are great but they are still sugar so the more greens the better.  (I also sometimes use kale, but that's a bit earthier.)

  • I use the frozen berries at Wal-Mart and put in a cup with a strawberry Yoplait 100 calorie greek yogurt. Then I put in a little bit of sprite. That is all I do and I love it! It is quite thick though.... more like eating ice cream! :)

  • Everyone has provided great recipes. I have a shitty blender, so I usually fill a 4c measuring cup with frozen fruit then microwave for 1 minute to soften it just a tad. Otherwise the motor grinds and the smell of melted rubber and plastic permeates the air.
Make sure you have enough liquid. Also, you can open the little lid in the middle, and use a woden spoon to shove things down to get them moving - just make sure you don't touch the blade, go toward the sides.

  • My Smoothie Break down: 1. Choose base: milk, almound milk, yogurt. 2. Choose fruit: fresh or frozen. any combo you like! 3. Choose protien: protien powder, spinach, peanut butter. 4. Ice ( if using frozen fruit no ice needed) 4. Sometimes I like to add other health supplements like chia or flax seed. Hope this helps. I have been craving smoothies so much this pregnancy!
