Egg question!

Hey guys! So I'm entering my 9th week now and have been looking at labels more and more. I know the obvious and major things to avoid, but eggs and eggwhites have me so confused!

I know to avoid caesar dressing and mayo that is made with raw eggs, but I'm finding that if you read the labels, egg or egg whites are in a lot of dressings, condiments, etc. For example, I was eating Palmetto Cheese, a packaged rerrigerated southern pimento cheese (MY FAVORITE THING IN THE WORLD!!!!) and read the ingredients and sure enough, eggs (https://www.pimentocheese.com/products.php#). It's under the ingredients list under mayo. But even store-bought mayo (that sits on the shelf for months before going in the refrigerator!) has eggs in it. So do kraft salad dressings, etc. How do I know which eggs are okay which to avoid? Which ones don't matter because of preservatives, etc. Am I making myself crazy? Or is it better to just avoid all of the above and play it safe?

Lastly, what about french toast? I know french toast is cooked, but it's very lightly cooked in the center. Is that safe?

Re: Egg question!

  • You are over thinking it. The cheese you like uses pasteurized eggs, so it is completely safe. Second anything on a shelf canned bottled has been process in a form such as sterilizing or pasturing so no worries. Avoid homemade Caesar dressing, and unpasteurized cheeses. Which BTW is hard to find in the US.

French toast is still cooked don't worry about it unless it really  is still raw inside. I've never seen French toast that I would question if it was raw, I would definitely send that back.

  • Ok! Sound like I'm good with bottled store-bought stuff and I can still eat my pimento cheese! You just made my night. Guess what I'm having for dinner?! :)
