OB in NOVA open to VBAC

This board seems quite but I will give it a shot...

Looking for an OB in the NOVA area that is open to a VBAC if conditions are right. My son is 14 months old and I not pregnant yet (husband is deployed until December) but looking to right after. Had to have a c-section because my pelvis was not wide enough, or so my Dr said. I am looking for an OB who is known for being open to a VBAC if the conditions are right. Need to go in for my yearly and figured I would go to the same OB I plan to work with during our next pregnancy.

TIA

Re: OB in NOVA open to VBAC

  • Hey there! I also had a c-section the first time around the I've read up quite a bit on VBAC options. Like you, I wanted to use my annual exam as a way to vet out potential providers. It turns out that the midwives at GW have the highest VBAC success rate in the region - 96%. That's pretty awesome in my opinion, but they do require a commitment to natural birth so if that's not your thing, then there a other good DC-based options but since you want NoVA specifically, I will say that Tepeyac has a VBAC success rate of 85%, which is higher than the national average of 75%, and that's impressive considering that they take on high-risk patients and offer a lot of pro-bono services to low-income, uninsured patients. They deliver at INOVA Fair Oaks.

  • From what I've heard, it can be tough to get into GW Midwives (plus they are downtown).  That being said, I have a friend that delivered with them in July and had a great natural birth experiernce.  I have heard good things about Tepeyac, but know they are a religious based practice so that is something to consider if you have a preference.

I go to Julian Martinez in Arlington (he delivers at VHC) and is wonderful so far.  We are not pregnant yet, but am confident that he'll be a great doctor and he is very pro-VBAC.  https://julianmartinezobgyn.com/

    Good luck!

  • I had two VBACs (one natural) at Virginia Hospital Center. Arlington Women's Center practice was VERY open to it and is supportive of another VBAC for my twins due soon if they are positioned correctly, etc. Pretty sure that you need to be a candidate (I.e., you didn't have previous problems with labor progressing, etc.) My first was breech, so I was a good candidate, but pelvis size may be a risk that many OBs wouldn't take).
