Babies on the Brain

Divorced, back with the "one that got away", and ttc.

I am the mom to three lovely boys and am divorced. Their father and I are fairly amicable. I am currently TTC with a man I've known and loved for twenty years and we are TTC. This month's timing was pretty damn good. I guess I'll wait and see, but it could be, I guess.

I'm a bit concerned with all that comes with pregnancy with someone new after divorce. I'm nervous how the kids will take it, their father, my family. Anyone deal with these feelings before?

  • Ugh. Back with the man I've loved for twenty years and TTC.

Please excuse my redundancy in the OP.

  • Congratualtions and good luck!! You'll figure it out......kids just want to be happy and know they are loved. And you'll be giving them a new friend to play with!

BTDT, and things have worked out very well for us.  DD1 is 8, her dad and I divorced (mostly) amicably, and maintain a good co-parenting relationship with shared custody.  We're able to work out the few disagreements easily, and we help each other when we can.

I remarried in 2011, and since I'm old, we started TTC right away.  DD2 is 14 months.

DD1 was very excited to have a baby brother or sister, and is lobbying for another one.  She's in general very helpful, and she's gone from 80% excited/20% jealous when DD2 was born to 95/5.  We tried to involve her from the beginning, she took a "Big Sister" class, we have special "dates" with just her.  My ex was cordial when I told him about the new child, and in general has been good.

We try to make sure we're good parents, and we create a supportive environment by never saying anything derogatory about the other set of parents (no matter how hard we grit our teeth).  We also make sure DD1 has special time with each of us.  And we go out of our way to recognize her as a great helper.

    Good luck!
