Extremely Gassy Baby

My 3 week old is and has been extremely gassy for a while now. It interrupts her when she is eating and is honestly the time when she is most fussy, trying to get the gas out. I can feel it rumble in her tummy something horrible :(  I am breastfeeding with only 2-4 ounces of formula at night to help settle her for bed. I haven't avoided any certain foods except for coffee. My mom mentioned some gas drops that you can buy over the counter called Milicon? Is this a good thing to use? Anyone using it that has noticed a difference?

Re: Extremely Gassy Baby

  • Thank you! The formula that we have been using is the GentleEase Enfamil. It is supposed to be the most gentle on their tummies hoping to avoid the uncomfortable gas. I will definitely give those drops a try!

  • My baby is 3 weeks also and is using formula about 50% of the time. He was super gassy also so we switched to the Enfamil gentle ease and I am giving him the milacon gas drops after every feeding. Also when things are particularly bad I give him mommys bliss gripe water (also gets rid of hiccups) and he is a much happier baby! I did also ask our pedi about all of this and she had no issue as long as we are following the recomended dosages. We bought the gripe water at Walmart in the pharmacy section and it was next to the baby has drops.

***make sure the gripe water you buy says that it does NOT have to be refrigerated after opening (some do) that way you can throw it in the diaper bag whenever you need to and you don't have to worry about it.

  • Thanks so much! I was able to go out today and only found the Little Remedies Gas Relief drops. I searched and searched for the Milacon but couldn't find it! So far I have given her two doses today of the gas relief and has already noticed a difference, but she is sleeping a bit more? Probably because she isn't being woken up with the horrible gas pain! The past few days I actually haven't given her any formula and when I spoke with a lactation consultant, she said that my baby doesn't necessarily need to burp because babies don't get much air from the breast. I def don't believe that because you should have heard the burps I got out of her today! Craziness! What type of bottles do you use as well? I am using the drop in liners when we give her the bottle of either formula or breastmilk and they still seem to get a good amt of air with them.
  • My EBF babies DEFINITELY need to be burped. I have a fairly fast letdown and they gulp and get some air that way.

As far as the gassiness, could def be the formula. It isn't as gentle on their tummies as BM is.

  • Gerber Soothe Probiotic drops have been a lifesaver for us. It takes 3-5 days to work but we have seen a HUGE difference. Definitely check then out. There are great reviews from people about them helping their gassy uncomfortable babies.

Just picked these up at Walgreens, I hope my girl will feel better soon. Thanks for the suggestion!
