Is Genetic Testing Right for You?

edited August 2013 in Washington Babies
I'm just curious what others moms chose to do about prenatal genetic testing when they were given the option to test their baby for any genetic defects. My husband and I chose not to do the testing, but that doesn't mean we were against it, it just simply wasn't the right choice for us. What's your perspective as a first time mom about prenatal testing? If you haven't gotten to that point in your pregnancy yet or if you're still contemplating doing the testing here's a really good article  that keeps an unbiased approach and gives the pros and cons of genetic testing. I highly recommend reading it if you are contemplating the testing or if you have no knowledge about the testing like I did. It breaks everything down for you, something that the doctors definitely did not do for us. Looking forward to everyone's input!

It is a good article.  I really just looked for how everything was going with the ultrasounds and NT Scan.  I knew that I did not want to do testing like an amnio.  I already had issues with previous miscarriages, so I had to be really careful with every decision that I was making, especially the tests.  And I have heard that sometimes the tests are not correct.  That being said, sometimes the tests were correct, and it seemed like it gave the mother some time to accept the truth during her pregnancy.  But the truth is that you have to do that anyway when that baby comes out.  And there are a lot of beautiful moments anyway.  That kid is just going to fascinate you with just who they are.  It is a personal choice, and I can understand both sides.
