I've read posts and diagrams on how to check your cervix to see if you are fertile or may be pregnant. Is it just me or does it seem inaccurate to use that as a basis for maybe being pregnant. Also, quite strange but when I was checking my cervix this morning (first time) I had a complete gag reflex. LOL. Am I alone here?! So I tried again and it was nauseating. Guess I won't be using that method.

Do it at the same time every day. Over time you will start to notice the differences. Hard feels like the tip of your nose and soft feels like your lips. Sometimes it is very high and too hard to reach. You can push it out using your pelvic muscles to get a better feel but I tend not to do that.
As far as with pregnancy, it is very subtle and probably wouldn't be that detectable especially if you are new to checking your cervix. During pregnancy the cervix is usually high, soft and closed however it can change position if you are constipated which is pretty likely and sometimes it is harder feeling then others especially if it is really high.
You can also "check your cervix" via sex. For instance, during ovulation time your cervix is very high and your DH will be able to penetrate you very deeply and when your cervix is low, it may hit your cervix causing some pain/discomfort (at least in certain positions).

I've tried checking mine, and I can't tell anything either. I thought maybe I sort of figured it out when TTC#1, but now that I've given birth vaginally, forget it. It feels different, and I just gave up!

A firm cervix feels like a hard penis, and the hole will be closed tight (especially if you've never had a term pregnancy).
A medium cervix feels like a semi, and the hole will usually be somewhere in between.
A soft cervix feels like the tip of a flaccid penis, and the hole will usually be loose and open.
If you're TTC and you have access to a penis, you should definitely check out the comparison. It makes so much more sense than the nose/lips crap. Especially since the cervix and the penis are so much more closely related anatomically.

I check my cervix but I do it because that's how I check CM. It doesn't gross me out, but then again it is hard to gross me out. The only reliable way to know if I was pregnant would be HPT, not checking my cervix.
