NWMR-IUD Question

Hi ladies, I'm not sure where to post this so thought I would try here.  I initially posted a question a few months back about IUDs.  I decided to go ahead and get one about a month ago.  I've had a lot of pretty heavy spotting since then and my first period has been horrible.  No cramping at all, but a super heavy flow.  I really don't know if I want to keep the IUD if this continues.  Did anyone have this problem but it went away?  Kinda regretting this decision now LOL.

Re: NWMR-IUD Question

  • Do you have a copper IUD or a Mirena? My dr told me one of the side effects are very heavy periods.

I have my second Mirena and I'm pretty happy with it. My periods lasted maybe 2 days when I had it with DS1 (no period yet with DS2) and was so light I used just a panty liner. Maybe you can switch?

  • I just got mine a week ago and I'm starting to regret it as well. DH and I were, or should I say tried to be together last night and we had to stop because he felt like he was being stabbed by the threads. I have an appt. on Friday to see what my options are. The dr. said he could cut the threads off entirely if DH felt it, but then he would have to go fishing for when it was time for it to come out. This was supposed to be an easy decision and it is turning into a nightmare. Have any of your hubbies felt what mine is feeling?

  • I have the paragard and I got my first PP period when DD was 9 months and it was awful. Soak through a tampon in an hour. Now she is 14 months old and they definitely have calmed down a lot. Still a heavy flow and crampy but not bad like in the beginning.
I wanted the hormone free and knew the side effects would be heavier flow.

  • Lurking over here, but I had the Paragard copper iud for about 5 years before I decided I wanted to get pregnant, and I had extremely heavy periods the entire time. Extremely. Sorry to say, it never got better. Regardless, I got the Paragard again now that I've had my son. To me, the ease of use and lack of hormonal side effects are worth the monthly deluge. If you decide to stick with it, look for Tampax Ultra. Yup, even more absorbent than Plus and Superplus! In my area, they only carry them at Discount DrugMart.
  • My first few periods were heavier with the Cu IUD just like my OB said- but they did return to normal
