Tight belly

I'm 14 weeks pregnant with twins and my belly feels so tight. Should I be concerned.

Re: Tight belly

  • If you are concerned, let your doctor know. Never be afraid to call them - that's why they are there. If they don't respond, then maybe they are not the right doctor's office for you.

For your question, I have what I think are growth spurts. My tummy starts running out of room then it stretches a little bit. It happened every few weeks early in my pregnancy but seems to be every other day now. It feels a but alarming but you get used to it.

  • Thanks I put in a call to my mfm.
  • Same thing happened to me at 14 weeks, it scared the bajeezez out of me. I was directed by my doc to L&D triage and it was contractions caused by constipation, I've now paid close attention to making sure if I don't have a good bowel (sorry tmi) movement every day or two I eat prunes or take extra fiber. But that said don't be afraid to reach out to the doc...mine also said it could be contractions started by a unnoticed uti or infection (they tested blood and urine too.) still happens to me every once in a while but it's less intense.
  • I have stomach tightening, non painful contractions with too much standing or activity. I have to time them and lay down if I have 4 or more lasting 45 seconds or longer in an hour. If they continue after laying down, I need to go in to be seen.

  • Agree with 10-4... I started having major tightening leading to growth spurts starting at around 16 weeks... That was also when I started getting regular afternoon contractions. A trip to the er and emergency doctor visit established that as my new normal - and it's continued for me getting closer together up until now (nearly 28). Call your doc and keep an eye on it, because it can be hard to distinguish from preterm labor... In my case it's just my norm.
