Mo/di peri care

Moms of Mo/di twins- When did you start seeing a perinatal? My OB said he would refer me and it would be up to the peri to decide when to begin seeing me. Just wondering what's "normal." If it matters, this is my first pregnancy and I have no other high-risk factors. thank you!

Re: Mo/di peri care

  • I started at about 18 weeks when they did my a/s. My OB wasn't even going to refer until after 20 weeks which I was not okay with. Ideally they should start seeing you by about 16 weeks to start ttts monitoring.
  • My OB didn't want to refer me at all but my insurance required an MFM do the anatomy scan so I went at 20 weeks.  The MFM was furious he hadn't seen me before.  I agree that 16 weeks is a good starting point.  Just call the MFM's office yourself and find out what they suggest and tell your OB.

  • Before we even found out it was twins I was referred out to a MFM for my NT scan at 12 weeks (my doctor didn’t do them so I had to be referred out for it). Then we found out it was twins, so I saw the MFM at 12 weeks for my NT scan and then starting at 16 weeks I saw him every 2 weeks for TTTS monitoring.
  • At 20 weeks for my A/S. I saw both the MFM and OB for the 2nd half of my pregnancy after that, and my OB delivered.
  • Ha ha - I saw peri care and wondered why perineum care would be different for any pregnancy, let alone a mo/di pregnancy :)

    Anyway -

I started seeing one at 12 weeks for the NT scan and determination of a membrane (mine wasn't obvious early on, it was supoer thin), then every 2 weeks for a while for TTTS screening, every week after my TTTS surgery, then twice a week for NSTs/BBTs until delivery.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

  • I only saw an MFM. Mine delivered, so there was no need to see an OB also. That said, I did move from an OB to an MFM at 10 weeks, which is when twins were confirmed on u/s.

  • First appointment was at 10 weeks to confirm they were mo-di and had the dividing membrane. Next appointment was at 18 weeks for the a/s and to start monitoring for TTTS. Since we have to travel to see our MFM, we also had a local ultrasound at 16 weeks to monitor for TTTS.

  • I found out I was having twins at my NT scan in the MFM office. I then met my MFM at 14 weeks and I will go every two weeks until I think 24 weeks, then I will go every week until 30 weeks, then I think twice a week. It seems crazy since I don't have any other high risk symptoms so far, but I'm happy for the close monitoring. I go to my OB once a month.

  • my first consult was at 10 weeks, the NT scan at 12 weeks was done there, and now at 16 weeks i'll be going every 2 weeks for monitoring.

  • 12w because Ob could not find membrane separating them. Saw Mfm till birth at 36w. ASAP would be smart IMO. There are so many risks with mo/di. GL!!
