Re: why no Twatwaffle post today??

  • I'm gonna jump in with the prick in the big Toyota Tundra truck that couldn't be courteous enough to wait in the long azz turn line at the light like everyone else. yes the light backs up cause everyone is taking their kids to school but that doesn't mean you gotta be a prick and jump in front of all cars waiting cause you don't feel like it. The left hand driving lane is not a left hand turn lane for you, wait your turn biatch! I wasn't even in the line but I sure was side eyeing and call you names on behalf of the little car that probably felt like it was going to run over by your big 'ole truck. Courtesy while driving people!

  • Here, let me help you with that...

Nominee #1... BOTH sales associates at Sirens. Neither one was particularly pleasant. One was almost verging on rude. And the store in general was too tight to squeeze through with my stroller, which is NOT huge. Only slightly larger than the average umbrella stroller.

Nominee #2... The sales associate at LeChateau. I asked what the return policy was, she replied exchange or store credit only. I then asked why no on seems to do refunds any more and she rolled her eyes at me.

Nominee #3... My doctor's office.  The nurse called to give me the appointment date and time to meet the genetic counsellor. She only had the date, time, building and phone number. No info on WHO I'm meeting, WHERE the office is IN the building or whether I could adjust the appointment to work with MY schedule.  I had to call to adjust date/time and find out which door to come into and which direction to head once in the building. It's a huge building and the genetic counselling department isn't very clearly labelled.

  • @surpriseat39 I can so relate to number 3, only it's our pedi's office. They are like the gang the can't shoot straight.

I'm nominating our pedi who 1) cancelled our 6 month appt the day before because she wanted to take a long weekend and then could only offer me time when LO would be 10 months old. I'm not joking. These are the details of the mssg her assistant left on my phone 2) refused to examine LO's head when I pointed out that she appeared to be developing plagiocephaly 3) refused to refer me to a specialist, instead writing a referral to an osteopath friend of hers that does not accept my insurance. An MD I know is helping me find a new pediatrician.

WOW!! A 4 month delay on the 6 month check up is unacceptable.
I don't know how all the medical insurance stuff works in the US, but in Canada we can see anyone.

I hope you get a replacement soon.
  • Hey @surprise@39 so, I'm actually in canada. I had been in the u.s. for many years, and came back just before LO was born. In that time quebec set up a two tier system that requires private insurance for an entire subset of doctors and services. The province has an MD shortage. They manage it by allowing private clinics and not allowing people to see two public doctors at once - meaning, your doctor has to agree to tell the province that they are ditching you before you can visit another if the same type. Sometimes a doctor will refuse to release you, or the new one will insist on a formal appointment, making a switch nearly impossible. Generally, though, everyone cooperates. It's finding someone with space in their practice, who speaks English or some mix of French and English that works with my own that is proving difficult.

For anyone who might think this is the norm in canadian healthcare - it absolutely is not. The public systems in every other province are very similar to my experience in the u.s., except they are publicly funded. My taxes are the same as they were in the u.s.. This is just one of the many ways that quebec is a strange place.
  • Nice to meet another Canuck :)

    Wow!

I had NO IDEA that Quebec was soooo different.
I'm in Ontario, and while I am still seeing a doctor I dislike because there is a shortage here as well, I could actually see anyone that was taking on a new patient.

I lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba for 3 years, up until 7 years ago, and while being very similar to Ontario, they (at the time) didn't seem to have a shortage, but were a bit behind the times in that they were like Ontario was 30 years ago.

I'm glad to be back in Ontario. I've had excellent health care both here and Manitoba.

I think I've heard Alberta may be similar to Quebec?, not sure though.
