I have been through every test these last few weeks... just had my blood drawn for Genetic testing.... and it is the first time I am really worried about the results... If I am a mutant... and my hubby is a mutant... then there is no going forward... it hit me on the way home .. that this one test may decide everything....
anyone else get freaked out about knowing everything you probably didnt ever want to know about your DNA make-up?

    all of that is workable and still has hope.... if our DNA isnt good for one another... then that is the end of the game... just seems scary to me... :}
How many of you have done genetic testing...

    Hi PPoppy2010,

We've had two miscarriages so RE did the genetic karotyping on both of us, and ran every other test under the sun to see what might be the cause.  I was horrified by the 16 vials of blood taken from me for my testing- thank goodness the results were negative all the way around, but I agree that the waiting can be very stressful and scary.  Thankfully, we had all of our test results within one week- we were initially told to expect a 2-3 week wait.   FX for you and your DH that your results will be negative too.

    Me, 41; DH 38; TTC since July 2012, 1st round of Clomid, BFP on 10/19, what an incredible blessing!  M/c on 7w3d; D&C on 11/30; 4th round of Clomid 100mg = BFP on 04/19!!! M/c #2 at 7w; D&C on 5/30, then repeat D&C on 7/1.  Saline u/s on 8/2, uterus looks great!  Will start TTC in 09/13 w/ Clomid 100mg. Surprise natural BFP on 8/25!!! Beta #1=95, #2=182, #3=404!  EDD 5/4/13...Grow baby grow!

Similar to hydrangeagirl, I had it done after recurrent losses to see if a genetic issue might be a factor.   They did identify some issues with me (which is a weird discovery this late in life), but after meeting with a genetic specialist, they explained that they didn't think it played a role in my miscarriages.  I agree that it is stressful, but hopefully it will give you some peace of mind that offsets this current worry.

For whatever reason, this was the one test that didn't get me worried.  I was told that there would only be concern if both parents showed the same abnormality.  We didn't even have my husband tested, and he's adopted and not sure of his background.  It helped that I didn't have anyone in my family that had been diagnosed with any of the conditions listed.  The results came back fine and the doctors didn't say anything about getting DH tested.

The cost was also pretty inexpensive.  It would have been about $100 (per person) if insurance didn't cover it.  Our insurance did cover it.

    Good luck

For other ladies who might be looking to explore genetic testing, especially if OOP, our karotyping and other panels (I can't remember everything RE tested, but there were quite a few panels) ran about $4,000.  Thankfully our insurance paid all but $190.

I wasn't worried, As far as we could tell no one in our families had any issues, mental health or physical - other then cancer seems to run in his family heart issues in mine, so I totally wasn't worried about the tests.

WELL.... I got the results back from my genetic testing.. everything was fine and perfect with mine.. except I have one mutant gene.. I have

    V Leiden thrombophilia

which is basically a blood clotting issue... BUT after reading more... it may explain a lot more of my history of 3 m/c... 9wks...10wks.. and 19wks...
The factor V Leiden mutation is associated with a slightly increased risk of pregnancy loss (miscarriage). Women with this mutation are two to three times more likely to have multiple (recurrent) miscarriages or a pregnancy loss during the second or third trimester. Some research suggests that the factor V Leiden mutation may also increase the risk of other complications during pregnancy, including pregnancy-induced high blood pressure (preeclampsia), slow fetal growth, and early separation of the placenta from the uterine wall (placental abruption).

I am so sorry you are dealing with this.  You will likely be put on lovenox or heparin during IVF and pregnancy.  It sounds like have a very thorough RE though which is a big plus.  I am so glad that at least you finally have some answers.  Good luck on Wednesday!

I have my WTF appt on Wed... well see what the RE says..

I am so sorry for your losses. I think there are ways that a person can be prophylactically treated during pregnancy. I have a blood-clotting issue that only affects me during pregnancy, as well. I was placed on lovenox for the duration of my pregnancy. I went to a perinatologist whose specialty is thrombophilia.
    Married 4/12/08 DS born 11/17/2009 via c-section at 39 weeks. 11/12/2011 BFP #2!! m/c 7w5d. 2/28/2012 BFP #3 Beta #1-12dpo = 18; Beta #2-16dpo = 185; Beta #3-18dpo = 505. EDD 11/10/2012. Ectopic discovered at 5w4d. D&C followed by methotrexate.
