2nd Trimester

When did your morning sickness end?

Since about week seven of my pregnancy I have been suffering the worst morning sickness. There will be a day or two where I am absolutely fine, but then for weeks on end it will be non stop throwing up and unable to hold even water down. The ER doctor mentioned if it continued to worsen that I probably had Hyperemesis gravidarum, I'm hoping it's not and that this will end..As today ends though I'm wonder if it really is, as once more I have been unable to eat or hold anything down and I'm now into my second trimester.

If you had morning sickness about where did it end for you?

  • After 20 weeks.

  • It hasn't, but now it only bothers me if I don't take my Zofran on time.

  • Zofran stopped working for me back at week 8 except when they do the IV version. I'm on promethazine, B-6 and Unisom but all that combination does is make me feel like the walking dead that is still throwing up.

I'm hoping it will start to taper off...I don't have any veins left for anymore IV's. (Blood work and IV's have blown them all..)

  • I haven't thrown up but I still feel sick and gag a lot and I'm almost 20 weeks.

  • With my first it did not completely end until week 20. This time around I am feeling better at 14 weeks so far! Also this time I'm taking vitamin B6 so maybe that is helping.

It didn't but now I have some good days thrown in with the bad.. I'm 18 weeks
  • Mine mostly went away at 15 weeks.  I still have moments where I feel like gagging or do gag.  If I don't eat enough for breakfast I will get sick guaranteed.

  • I'm about 18 weeks and it's just barely slowing down. I was taking Zofran but (tmi) the constipation it caused was so bad it wasn't worth taking it. I hope it ends soon.

  • Thanks everyone, it gives me an idea of general time frame.

I'm going to talk to my doctor on thursday during the appointment about the Hyperemesis gravidarum. My friends mother who's a medic and really knowledgeable in this is saying it sounds like I do. And mention what the ER doctor thought to... we'll see it's Naval they don't like to admit people if they don't have to.

They will probably give you zofran and or phenegren ask for colace for constipation. I have both. But with military care and hospitals try to get your meds all in one visit I was so tired of not going to the bathroom cause I couldn't get in to tell them I needed something to poooo
  • Thankfully around 10 weeks. I'm sorry you are still dealing with it. I suspect that its worse since you are pg with twins.

I was put on Zofran at week seven and taken off of it at week nine and put on Promethazine which is the non generic name for phenegren which is not working as well. I have a weird system.. I grow immune to medications extremely fast, generally with in a few days to a week if I take them constantly. There isn't much that isn't in the strong narcotic range that works for me.. which sucks because of the chronic neck pain I can't take anything for right now.

  • I am 16 weeks now and no throwin up but still nauseated. It's a lot less frequent than it was and I can actually eat but I still have some days of bad nausea :( I hope we all feel better soon!!
  • With my first it ended pretty much as soon as I entered the 2nd trimester.

This time around I'm 21 weeks and I still have it.  Some days I'm fine and other days I can't survive without Zofran.  Turns out both my mom and Aunt had it throughout their second kids too :(

  • 22 weeks the epic puke-a-thon ended but upset tummy has stuck around in waves the whole time. however it got better after she turned i am 34 weeks today and my Dr told me yesterday she turned and is gonna stay that way. ( my hubby and i made a biggy). I hope it gets better. are you open to drugs?  ask your Dr if they are ok for you but i know they helped a lot of the moms i chat with
  • ill be 19 weeks tomorrow and mine cmes and goes. i have notices there are triggers though. mostly my prenatal vitamins. i taste them for house after i take them
  • I have HG as well and it doesn't end. At least in my case. What really helps me is the meds and ensure in the morning instead of a real breakfast. Even doing this and puking still he's at the correct weight and length so no worries about baby getting what they need :)
  • Mine was really mild. The worst of it was from about 6 weeks-11 weeks. It was off and on and mild after that and still is.

Mine didn't fully go away until about 18 weeks, although it is different for everyone. I still have a rare day here or there where I feel icky, but it does get better, I promise. I also had a case of hyperemesis and had actually lost 15 lbs between my first OB appt (found to be approx 7 weeks along) and my 16 week appointment. I had weight to lose anyway, but I didn't want it to go away like that!

  • Mine was bad from 6 weeks through 12 weeks, although I only puked once. My food aversions were pretty bad and we had to eat take out a lot because I couldn't stand the smell of cooking food. Sorry I'm not more help... I think my MS is a lot less severe than yours :( Good luck!

For me it was 13 lbs between week 6 and week 9, so in three weeks I has lost that much weight. At first my husband said I could lose the weight because I am heavy thanks to the PCOS and making it impossible to lose the weight but pack it on even only eating once a day. He was taking it as a good thing I was losing the weight..

It wasn't until my doctor ordered me to Naval ER for severe dehydration and then the next week for bleeding where they put me on dual IV bags at once that he realized.. crap.. this wasn't good. I don't think he realized HOW much I had lost until he saw me step on the scale at the ER the final time and he saw how much i had lost.

Now he's pushing me to get something done, which I'm afraid it's going to be hospitalization like the Naval ER doctor said. (I HATE Naval...god I hate it) and knowing my luck on thursday they will.. and my husband comes home from his mission on friday..

  • Hang in there. I've HG now and had it with my first. Dropped 25 pounds with my first from week 8 to 22, not sure how much before. I'm around 17 down now, but haven't had my weekly weigh in.

It freakig blows. I know. And I know hospitalization doesn't sound fun, but if that's what you need, don't try to avoid it. Hope yours passes soon!

  • I have HG and I'm still throwing up regularly at nearly 24 weeks while taking 3 drugs so if you have it, I recommend getting medicated.  Obviously in my case the meds haven't eliminated the problem, but they have reduced it.  There's no reason to suffer.

  • 22 weeks was my first week of not getting sick or taking zofran. There were still times where I was really nauseous, but I felt like it was a big milestone. Hope you start feeling better soon!
  • It went away in my 2nd trimester, but returned at 30 weeks
  • 24 weeks and still dealing with morning sickness and nausea, especially if I drink or eat something too sweet. Dang it!

  • I am still having sickness on occasion. I feel for you as I had severe ms with two of my children.
  • My doctor today, who I love she is great and honest (first time meeting her) She told me that even if I had HG I was already on the strongest and best meds for it and the hospital was just going to shove an IV in me and leave me to be bored for days.. She had twins and hers vanished around 20 weeks so that is what we're both hoping for.

  • With my first, the day I delivered.....with this one, it hasn't ended yet. Sigh. Take the zofran and keep drinking water.

I am now 10 weeks and no longer feel any sickness.i have been taking my prenatals in halves, one in the a.m. the other in the evening. Also when i did feel nausea i would munch on cheese-its with the tiniest bites, almost like a mouse would. Hope this helps.
  • With my first, I had it the whole time. My second was about two weeks. My third was until about 14 weeks and this one I had it till almost 20 weeks.

  • My first child i was fine no morning sickness at all my second i had morning sickness until about 3 months. I am currently having my third and i have hyperemesis gravidarum. I am five months and still get nauseous and vomit occasionally it had been better since week 18 though. Your doctor should have given you a diet plan for women with hyperemesis gravidarum yet to follow the guidelines and eat thru the nausea and take the nausea medication that should also have been provided by your doctor. Its hard to eat thru the nausea but you have to try for the baby.

I was pretty sick weeks 11-20. Then felt better @ week 20 and tapered off zofran (tip: don't do this suddenly-- really taper it!) and nexium. Then restarted nexium week 26 us HB is my new enemy this trimester!
  • Some of these answers scare me!! I just passed 13 weeks and I really thought I might have been finished with most of the bad morning sickness. I still get a little queasy in the evening sometimes but I figured it was on its way out! Then today has been pretty terrible, and my zofran didn't do much... And now I have heartburn.. Haha I guess if it's not one thing, it's another! I suppose the good news is that the bulk of it is over (I hope..)
