Day care - waiting lists

I just found out in Saturday that I am expecting my first. I am about 4 weeks along. I put my little one on three day care waiting lists today. I'm still considering reaching out to thee day care centers.. I feel like that's crazy, but everything I am reading online says you have to start super early. What's your experience?

Re: Day care - waiting lists

  • It totally depends on where you live. In Chicago, the wait lists are really long and it's a good idea to get on them ASAP. But even in the close suburbs they aren't nearly as bad. Did they give you an idea of how long their wait list is?

I started calling places before LO was born because although I do not live in a city, there seemed to be wait lists. It took a couple of tries before we found one accepting infants.

  • Get on as many as possible!  My lo is 3 weeks old.  I had her on 5 different waiting lists for 8+ months.  I called the week after she was born.  Only 1 of the 5 have availability for her to begin in October....the remainder won't be available until after the new year.
