Cell-Free Fetal DNA Testing

I'm wondering how many of you have been offered (and taken advantage of) cell-free DNA testing. I did, because I figured why not? The more you know, right? And I got to know the sex of my baby at 13/14 weeks with no guessing. It's a very new type of genetic testing, and I'm curious to hear how many people are being made aware of it. I think it's great!

Yes, many of us have. It's a great new first option to amnio's or a CVS

I just had mine done (brand name Harmony) last week. However, I'm kind of bummed because my peri ordered it and they rushed me through the checkout so quickly I forgot to ask them to specify I'd also like the gender reveal portion. The phlebotomist (sp?) said she could not change the order and they'd already called FedEx for an immediate pickup since it is a rush delivery... Oh well. (ETA: lab was 3rd party-LabCorp, on the other side of town and dr's office had closed for the day by the time I found the lab.)
My NT scan went well, but it will be great to know for sure if we need to be prepared for special care at delivery.

My favorite part of the call from the genetic counselor was when she told me the sex, and I was a little surprised it wasn't a girl. The counselor's reply to my obviously taken-a-back response was, "Well, you can't argue with XY." I immediately laughed because she couldn't be more right, and after that I was no longer off kilter with knowing I was having another boy.

I had it done because I screened positive (1:57) for downs with the first tri blood testing. My nt scan was within the normal range but the more info the better. Luckily my results came back with low risk (1:10,000) and xy. The sex was confirmed during my a/s. Little man wasn't shy at all.

I just got the Maternity 21 test results last Friday, very reassuring to have that information, either way. If there had been anything wrong, I wanted to know to be prepared for baby's delivery in case extra care was needed, they explained to me that the extra personnel could be available in the delivery room ready to do what needed to be done right away. When I had my other two children, the only options were amnio and cvs, which were so much more invasive that I opted to skip those so I was happily surprised with the newer technology.

They can. They can look at the chromosomes to make the determination, but you've got to tell them you want to know.

What did the cost of the test look like for you guys? Did insurance cover any of it?

I've heard of the Harmony and Panorama tests and that they can be done as early as 9-10 weeks.

At how many weeks did you all have your testing done?

My insurance covered a modest portion and then I received a subsidy to bring it down to $295 from $1800, I believe. (You just reminded me that I need to find the bill and pay it!) If I am remembering correctly, the state wants to try to promote the new testing, and that's why I received a significant subsidy.

My test was done by verinata.com under the name brand Verifi. I was 12.5 weeks when I had it done, and had my results in a week.

I had the materniT21 test done at 10 wks. Got the results back the same day as my NT scan and made it that more reassuring. We decided not to find the sex.

With my insurance it is considered medically necessary for woman who are 35 or over at the time of birth.

I had the Harmony test done and my insurance covered all of the cost with pre-authorization. I also requested to find out baby's sex from the test.

I had the Panorama test done at 11w6d. I haven't been billed yet. However my doc said that the Panorama company won't charge you more then $150 if your insurance won't cover it. You just have to call them. We found out the gender as well.
