My first was at 39w4d. I was pregnant 7 months later.
I'm not sure if it had to do with the quick pregnancy, but I do know that can be an issue... In any case, I suffered from ptl and a lot of false labor from 33 weeks on in my second pregnancy and finally gave birth at 37w3d. They gave me the option of inducing at 36 weeks during ptl, but I declined and luckily, my body naturally put an end to things for a little while longer.
I got pregnant the third time when DD was 10 months old. I've had false labor this time around since 28 weeks and ptl at 31 weeks. However, now at 34 weeks, I have had no contractions for days (although I suffer from constant timetable Braxton Hicks), and my doctor is pretty confident that I'll go to full term. 40 weeks? I don't know... But having ptl and early deliveries tends to lead to it again in subsequent pregnancies.
My DD was born at 40w3d. I completely expected to go at least close to full term again. In fact, the day before DS was born, I wasn't showing any signs of impending labor. My DS came this week at 37w1d. They are only 13 months apart in age. I do wonder if the consecutive pregnancies and tandem nursing was the cause of an early delivery the second time around.
Mommy to N (3), J (2), and C (10 months). LO4 is due in mid-September.
Congratulations on your little bundle of joy bookworm982! Thanks for the replies ladies. I have no idea what to expect this time and find myself MORE nervous than I was with my son. Probably because I have another person to think about other than just me, my husband and our impending arrival. I have this gut feeling she is going to be breech. I don't know why, but I do. She was head down for over a week and then turned back and is laying sideways. Hope she goes back to where she belongs because we really want a natural birth.
DD1 was born at 37w3d and DD2 at 38 weeks. They are 15 months apart. IMO there is no rhyme or reason. But I will say my second labor was so much easier than my first.
Well, DD1 was delivered early due to pre-e complications, so we don't really know "when" she would have arrived. I was induced and she was born at 37 weeks.
I thought DD2 would come early. I was dilated at 4cm by 37 weeks. But I walked around at 4cm for two weeks. I had an elective induction with her at 39wks2days. The doctor said she was shocked I didn't go on my own over the weekend. DD2 was almost 9 lbs., so I doubt she would've made it to her due date.
Active labor was much quicker with DD2, though. I think I pushed for two hours with DD1; I pushed for 20 minutes with DD2.
I had DD at 39w3d, after my water broke, followed by an induction because I didn't go into active labor, and ultimately a CS when I still failed to progress.
DS was an RCS for multiple reasons (pregnant again after 6 months, age, etc.). I was starting to go into labor (was 3cm and fully dilated), so my doctor ended up doing the RCS at exactly 38w.
I've been thinking about the exact same thing mkenney12. My DD arrived 4 weeks early and I'm wondering if DD2 will do the same! I must say I had a very easy labor and delivery with DD1, total time from water breaking to delivery was 3 hours. My doctor says #2 will probably be even faster, I can't imagine that being possible lol! I'm 32 weeks now and keep thinking I'm going to go in to labor at any moment, I guess I'm just being paranoid since DD1 was so early! Good luck!
First baby was 3 weeks early, second was 2 weeks early. My sister's first was 3 weeks early and second was 2 days late. My OB said there is no correlation.
First was born just shy of 38wks due to pre-e.. Was pregnant 3 ish months later and my second was born at 37wks on the day for pre e. everyone was shocked that I had pre e back to back, apparently it's unusual to have it in subsequent pregnancies?
Re: For those who had their babies early
I was late with both of mine.
