Implantation Bleeding?

So the strangest thing happened Friday...

First some background on my cycle... it's regularly around 30 days, but in May and June it got a little off (43 days and 44 days). Last month it seemed to re-regulate (32 days). DH and I are not yet "TRYING" to conceive, but we are not doing anything to prevent, and I am tracking ovulation with the rhythm method and iPhone app (actually 2 different apps until they sync up). I know all about charting and temping, just haven't started that yet.

My last period was July 27 - July 31. DH and I had sex on Aug 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 12, and 13. On Friday the 16, I went to the bathroom, saw bright red blood in the toilet, and bright red blood when I wiped... But that was it. VERY odd - nothing like that has ever happened. But if it's implantation bleeding, I would have had to have ovulated earlier that I expected? The IB would have happened on day 21 of my cycle.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK!? :D

Re: Implantation Bleeding?

  • I think that you won't know whether or not it is implantation bleeding until you get a positive HPT or your period.

  • Wow, that is quite a font you have there!  Taking a test will be the only way to know.  Even the most "clockwork" cycles have off months and with your cycles as crazy as they have been, there is no way to tell when you ovulated.  Take a test every few days until you see two pink lines or until you get your period.

  • I have read a lot of mixed reviews... how soon after suspected implantation should I test? :)

    Thanks for your responses!
  • If your cycle started on 7/27, it means you are approximately 23 days in.  Going by a "clockwork" schedule, there is no reason to test until you are at least 25 days in but more accurately, 28 days in.  I would wait at least 2 days, and ideally, 5 days.  But again, that is with a by the book cycle which by the sounds of previous cycles, you do not have.  If I were you, I would test in 5 days and if it is negative, test again in a few days until you get a positive or your period. • Thanks! :) Just ordered some new tests online, so they should come just in time!
  • I had implantation bleeding. For me it was just a little pink on the TP. I assumed I started my period. The next day when I still wasn't bleeding I took a test and it was positive. I was due for my period the day I bled. Take a test.

  • Implantation bleeding is extremely rare.  It is must more likely you bled because you've been having so much sex.  You could still be pregnant but the only way to know is to take a test.

Tests are reliable by about 14 days post ovulation.  Since you aren't charting temps and don't know when you ovulated, I would test starting at cycle day 28 then weekly until you get a positive or your period shows up.  If you hit 60 days without either, call your doctor.
