Looking to expand my horizons

Can you share with me your favorite less-used floral/ nature names?  So- no Rose, Lily, Daisy.

So far I have Amaryllis (H loves this one), Azalea, Dahlia and Marigold.  I also like Meadow and Peony but H said Meadow made him think of The Sopranos and he wasn't willing to name a DD something that sounds like "pee on me".

EDIT: I love Marigold.  I wonder if I could get my husband to go for Marigold with a nickname of Mary......  He'd probably look at me nutty.  ::sigh::

That's why I like it so much!

  • One of my favorite flowers is coreopsis moonbeam. (Pron: Cor-ee-op-sis)  I have a bunch of them in my garden.  They're beautiful -- like a cloud of small, bright yellow flowers on a bed of delicate green stems.  They're small plants, but when they bloom -- POW!

When I was pg the first time, my mom and I kept talking about whether you could get away with naming a child Coreopsis Moonbeam Lastname and calling her Corrie.  It's just too hippy-dippy for me to actually use, but I still like it in the abstract.

The book How To Make An American Quilt had two sisters, Gladiola and Hyacinth, who went by Gladdy and Hy.  I always thought those were do-able.

  • Had a friend named Jacaranda growing up - she went by Jac :) Beautiful tree... love Salix for a boy (genus of willow).
