Success after IF

Diaper change question

Now that LO is on solids and formula his poops are really thick and only once every 2-3d so big in volume. My question is whether you guys have any tips on keeping his hands out of his diaper for the diaper changes when he has one of these monster poops. He's at the stage where he grabs at himself every change and when there is that much poop it is a disaster. We've tried a toy for distraction but then everything just ended up messy...particularly after he threw the toy across the room....he also likes to then put his hands in his mouth. It's fine if two of us are home but DH is home alone all day with him usually. Thanks!

Re: Diaper change question

  • No tips here I just try to change fast and distract with a toy. But these days the toys he will still somehow get in the middle of his diaper change. It's all about the quickness :) While trying to get them to stay still!

  • Lol! J is doing this too! But without boy bits she isn't finding it to be that interesting unless there is poopie!

I was consedering one of those dog lampshade collars. You know, the ones they give you after any sort of pet surgery? Maybe around the middle? You can buy them at pets.mart.

A less extreme measure would be a burp cloth or receiving blanket doing zone defense and one hand wiping with a quickness (and multiple wipes lined up the second side of a hockey team!)

Good luck, poop is the mouth sounds revolting.

  • I have special things I only let her play with during diaper changes to keep her busy. Like the camera, cell phone, electronic/obnoxious talking book. They are highly coveted "toys" and usually keep her occupied long enough to get the job done.

  • Like Elf, I have special diaper changing toys, mirrors, books... I rotate them the second those toys start getting thrown. I'll also have them play peekaboo with a clean diaper/burp cloth and make silly faces/ animal noises. I find that they are much more likely to leave their nether regions alone if I make lots of eye contact instead of keeping my eyes on what I'm doing down below.

I find that the penis grabbing bonanza comes and goes. It doesn't seem as bad as it did around 6/7 months, but they will still yank them pretty hard. I keep reminding them that God only gives them one penis and that they'll miss it if they lose it, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. :-S

LOL - that is funny! I do the special changing pad toys too, but it doesn't always work. I have to admit these replies are cracking me up, especially imagining a poop covered toy flying across the room  :))

  • We took the mobile from DS's crib and attached it to his changing table when he was at that stage. It was an awesome distraction for us and usually worked in keeping his hands out of the way.

This is what we do, but I might try what @Dragonfly1226 suggested as the toys don't always work for me.

  • So I think I'm a little late to this post but have u tried being on your knees strattling your dc but facing their feet. A mom showed me this at my moms group and it really has came in handy. They can't reach the poop that way. I know it's kind of hard to picture it but it has worked wonders for us. It also helps if your dc is being resistant to getting their diaper changed.
