When Ellie gets mad recently she throws herself backwards. Today in her crib she was standing and threw back and railed her head. She has been doing this everywhere. Is it a phase or can we some how put a stop to it?
Just wondering, is it like arching her back or trust falling? We've experienced both types here. When he's mad and doing it, I've been trying to redirect him or picking him up and carrying him to a different room. It's worked so far, but I have a feeling we're just in the beginning of this type of thing.
@par13 oh there is no trust falling. This is full on throwing back. She doesn't even look behind her. When she was standing in her crib today she just launched back. It was crazy.
Mine just started this along with melt downs. She was an easy an amazing infant never made a peep. Now she gets upset when we say no or take something away and it's a full on fit. I wasn't expecting this at age one!
My 2 year old still does this during a tantrum. But a few times of hurting her head means she usually checks behind her and adjusts her throwback style to not hurt as much.
Their heads are pretty durable. A few times of letting them experiment with the ground to see what hurts/doesn't hurt will mean they will learn faster.
Lexie does this while throwing a tantrum. We are starting to try to deal with these tantrums- I usually lay her down so she is already on the ground and walk away. Going in the crib TICKS her off, so far she hasn't busted her head.

I remember Keagan doing this as well, he stopped once he realized he was most likely going to hurt himself.

I heard they outgrow by age 16.
