HELP! Toddler Biting :(

My 2.5 year old b/g twins are constantly biting each other.  DS has always been a biter (only with his sister) when new teeth are coming in, but he had been a lot better for a while (and DD has never bitten much before). The past few days, DS and DD have been biting each other a ton. They will be happily playing and then one will upset the other (take a toy, etc.) and someone will bite...or they will be happily and rambunctiously and almost excitedly bite. We have a book about biting, we try time out....but nothing seems to be helping. They know that biting hurts and that it's mean, but in the moment that it's happening they don't seem to be thinking, which I realize is something they need to learn. They are getting molars which I think is contributing. But, I just don't know what to do, it's like I can't take my eyes off them, or be out of arms reach for one second.

Any suggestions? Any one else have this problem?

  • My girls went through a biting phase and I thought it stopped but they are almost two and just started up again.  We just ordered the Teeth are not for Biting book and we do time out and talk to them about not hurting others.  I think it takes a long while to sink in.

  • Thank you for the responses. I hope this phase is over soon...they have bite marks all over :(

We have had the Teeth Are Not For Biting book for a while. I'm going to start reading it with them daily again.
