Getting Pregnant Problems

Are ttc problems very common? Everything I have read says that I should go to the doctor and find out if my husband or I have any fertility issues before ttc, is that really necessary? How long did it take some of you to get pregnant?

Re: Getting Pregnant Problems

  • It took me a year and a half to get pregnant. The general rule is if you don't get pregnant within a year if your under 35 six months if your older then you got to a doctor.

  • It can take a healthy couple a year to conceive.   Unless you have other health issues, there is no reason to see a doctor at this point.

Take some time to learn about your about your body, your cycles, and how to time sex to increase your chances.

With my first- I got pg on the first cycle.  Now with TTC #2, it has been quite a bit longer.

  • Ditto PPs. It took us over a year to get pregnant and we're both mid-20's healthy and active. Sometimes putting stress on yourself and thinking about it constantly can cause issues, too. We ended up taking a break for a bit as it's hard as hell to not get consumed by it when ttc, but relaxing is the best advice I can give... Sometimes a good strong drink or 3 helps  ;)

  • We just hit the 2 year mark of TTC and are in the middle of our first IVF cycle. We did not see a doctor about trouble TTC until we hit the year mark, since I am under 35 and we have no known health issues that would affect TTC. If you are 35 or over it is usually recommended that you see a RE for infertility testing at 6 months. These are just guidelines though, some couples wait longer because they are not ready to start testing at the year mark. Also if that is your full name in your username, you might want to create a new account. You don't know what kind of weirdos are lurking on the Internet.

  • I just want to add that if your SN is your real name, you should change it.

  • Other than carrier screening if you have a relevant family history, most doctors will not begin testing if you haven't been trying for 6/12 months depending on your age. Doctors delay because most insurance companies won't cover the work ups, even for plans that cover infertility treatments, until a couple has been trying for 6/12 months. Take a deep breath, relax, track your cycles, and have fun trying.
  • IDK what you're reading but no, "everything" does not say to go to the doc for a fertility workup prior to TTC.

Every couple is different, but the average is somewhere between 6-12 mos of well-timed sex to conceive.

  • Some doctors like to do a preconception appointment when you're ready to TTC but I didn't. Basically they get your medical history and talk to you about stopping birth control and what prenatals to take and will go over the what to do if you don't have success on your own. I have been with the same doc since I was 14 and am almost 34 now so her and I have been over all that so I didn't see a need to have a preconception appointment. Are you starting over with a new doctor? Then you may feel more comfortable meeting them and discussing concerns. Like PP said, it could take some time or it may not. Good luck!!

  • It can take a healthy couple 12+ months to conceive. 1 in 7 couples will have trouble getting pregnant. Go ahead and have a pre conception appointment with your OB, but if you have no medical history that would cause the Dr. to think you will have issues, there is nothing to test right now.

This.  I was too distracted by what appears to be a real name to read the actual post.

Do either of you know the Bump God's email where I can send the request to change my user name? I've seen it written previously but can't find it now.
