Not smiling?

Just wondering if there are any other babies out there who are not yet smiling. I see a few random smiles directed at the wall but nothing at me. Birth date was May 22nd so a little later in the month, but still... Please make me feel better!

Re: Not smiling?

  • My LO is smiling but just wanted to say all baby's develop at their own pace and can be advanced in some areas and behind in others. I have read that some babies don't start to smile a lot til the end of the third month! So don't be discouraged! We just kept making funny faces at our LO and he started to smile at them! Also keep big smiles going when feeding and cuddling they tend to mimic your facial expressions too!

  • My LO was born June 3 and while she has been smiling since 7 weeks, it sometimes takes a lot to get her to smile. She's starting to smile more in the past week or so, but until then she would only give a few smiles a day, mostly right when she woke up. I second what PP said. All babies develop differently and milestones are not set in stone. There is a wide range of "normal."

  • I agree on the babies develop differently (and try to keep this in mind as your LO goes through life!). Just don't stop smiling at your baby! They learn by mimicking.

  • It took a really long time before S started to really smile, and I still can't get her to really laugh. like everyone else said, every baby develops differently. With S I'd just keep talking to her and making funny faces and smiling at her. Eventually she started smiling back but it really does depend on the time of day for her

This. Don't worry about it and don't stop smiling.
  • My LO didn't start really smiling until about 10 weeks or so and I had a friend who's LO started smiling at 4 weeks! Every baby is different and develops at their own pace. Try not to worry even tho I know it's hard.
  • Thanks ladies! I know every baby is different but I just cannot wait for that connection I know we will have when he starts smiling back at me :-)
