Carrier nursing with big boobies and a bad back

So, this time around I've been in love with sling nursing. With a 3 year old running around I don't have time for leisurely nursing sessions all the time and I love that I can nurse and no one even notices. But, yesterday I had these horrible, debilitating back spasms after nursing the little one for a mile long walk. I mean like, breathing through them early labor bad. Today, I tried the sling and immediately had severe back pain again. So I dug out my old favorite, the mei tai and youtubed up some videos on nursing in it. I get how it works but I find my little one smothering on boob (we're talking 34G here!) I tried dropping it lower but then my nipples are too high. Ideas? I'd even buy a new carrier to make this work as long as we're not talking Ergo expensive. I already have 2 mei tais, 3 slings, and an Ergo (hate it). I also have this wrap thing but DD shrieks whenever I try it. Here's a pic.

  • I should mention baby is 11 weeks and so still a bit floppy and needing proper head support

I have back issues and almost exclusively wrap (though I have to know how to use  and nurse in) every major type of carrier as part of my babywearing educator cert). I find woven wraps extremely supportive. Your picture makes me think you have a stretchy wrap, which can feel saggy to a sensitive back, even for a tiny baby. I am also well-endowed, and have managed to learn  to nurse in any carrier. Instant back hurting makes me wonder if you are wearing baby high enough to kiss. Obviously when nursing, you'll need to lower baby, but get baby back up high and tight when done. As for getting to the right nursing height, it takes some trial and error. I often find that bringing my breast over the top of my shirt's neckline is helpful when wearing baby. That does require a stretchy-necked shirt, but it helps to support the breast some. I have a couple of nursing in a wrap videos on You Tube. I also have a blog entry on wearing despite chronic back pain.
  • Thanks for the suggestions. I've completely abandoned that wrap thing. It's horrible. I did just purchase a boba wrap which is *very* stretchy. My back hurts a little, but not as bad (the sling gives me upper back pain vs lower back pain). I think part of my issue is weakness - I was on modified bedrest for the final 8 weeks and I think I need to get my strength up. If the pain continues I'll give a woven wrap a shot. I do think I could get into wrapping.
