Yay. I read a series of mysteries where the lead character is Amaryllis and goes by Liss. I think it's cute. And I love the flower.

I'm enamored with this name. I never realized until recently the flower name comes from mythology, and that it means "sparkling". Love.

And now all I can think of is the crazy chick from The Bachelor.... I don't like the name Amaryllis. I know the flower thing is popular, but this is one flower name I don't care for.

Love it! It's beautiful, has a nice association, and lends itself to a lot of interesting nicknames. I think it would have to be paired with a simple last name, though, otherwise it could get overwhelming.

Thanks for all the replies! The STD association isn't a good one, but I still like Amaryllis, although I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to use it as a FN.
