I asked my doctor this when I found out I was pregnant. My SO is on medicinal which isn't different from street weed if you know the person you're getting it from. My doctor said that it was fine. My doctor told me if I felt nauseous enough that having some wouldn't harm the baby.

My doctor isn't a quack it anything but she said because there is no definitive evidence that it leads to any deformities or birth defects that it was fine once and a while. But not to do it everyday all day.

It's just like having a cigarette or having an occasional glass of wine. It's all moderation

    I disagree with your doctor
Yea I second that pot kills brain cells, so your dr is ok with damaging baby brain cells?  I think if you can not stop smoking pot to have a child then maybe you should really reconsider having a child at the moment. ( not saying you should but in general) Babies are innocent therefore do not need to be exposed to harmful crap yet... Plenty of time for that later in life...

  • If I can quit smoking (cigarettes) you can quit weed.

  • I used to smoke alot. When I found out I was pregnant I stopped all together. My doctor told me I could if I wanted to. Not once said that I have since I was pregnant. Quick to judge much? I don't even like being around the smoke right now because the smell gives me headaches. But not once did I ever say I have had a smoke since I found out.

no one judged you. We simply disagreed with your doctor and gave reasons why. Quick to get your panties in a bunch much?

My big girl panties are on but when someone says that I should reconsider having a baby because I said I smoke weed irks me the wrong way. I would love to know how many people on this board smoke cigarettes still. I'm not trying to start shit I'm genuinely curious. Because if I can get flamed for saying that my doctor said it was ok once in a while I would love to see the post about smoking cigarettes which are by far worse.

I never said you and I thought I made it clear when in parentheses I wrote its not directed towards you but in general. That is just my opinion, I asked my Dr about the pot and the smoking and he looked at me like I was on anther planet. He said at no time during pregnancy is smoking of any kind ok.

I did cashing but I did not mean it towards her, I think that if a person is not willing to give up smoking they should reconsider having a child right at the moment not forever. It is hard for people with any addiction and I think and this is just my opinion. If a person can not give up something they know is dangerous and harmful to a child then well getting help before getting pregnant is so much better then exposing a child to that.

I would side eye the shit out of you no matter what you're smoking while pregnant and I'd have no problem saying something about it
I side-eye people that smoke while pregnant or not. It is disgusting and not only is it bad for the person smoking but second hand smoke it just as bad

Question. If you are on pain management taking pain pills... Do you think taking pills or smoking weed is a better option for your fetus? One causes dependancy and possible birth defects and the other has none of that.. Which would u choose?

I think that if I'm in unbearable pain I should take one of my dr prescribed pain pills as opposed to burning one.

Pain killers can become an addiction as well, alot of perscriptions can be

  • I get horrible blinding headaches and my dr wanted to rx me Vicodin, I looked like at him like he had 4 dragon heads and was pink. He laughed and told me Vicodin in small amounts is very safe in pregnancy. So if it came down to filling my lungs with smoke cutting off oxgen to the kid or popping a pill every once in awhile then yea its a no brainier.

ummm, I think she's advocating pot over pain pills

I didn't say i chose anything, I was just stating that even pills can be an addicion to.  If i had to decide with going with pot or pain killers while pregnant, I would honestly chose pills. Instead of getting a body high and not feeling it for a few hours, pills actually help stop the pain.

  • You never know for sure if the pot is laced with something.

My grandfather takes marijuana pills for pain. But he also has 2 typers of cancer and a list 3 pages long of things medically wrong with him.

I do neither. But my opinion I would rather ingest THC that was organically grown then to take opiates made by pharmacutical companiesHave you seen the babies shreck and cries after being born dependent on opiates? Find me one from thc
the problem with this is that you're Trusting someone off the street to be upfront with you about the content of an illegal (in most states) drug. ETA: ppl lace that shit all the time

The guy I used to get it from was a friends dad. He was a pot smoker his whole life and told us straight up if we were going to smoke he wanted to know where it came from so he started growing it. He was being responsible in one way!!

  • I was prescribed Vicodin during my last pregnancy for two ruptured discs in my lower back. I miscarried. The embryo stopped developing at the same time i started taking it. I'm not a doctor, I haven't done research, this is just my opinion but I think the Vicodin contributed to my miscarriage.
Guess who sucks up her back pain this pregnancy? This girl.

  • I'm all for legit medicinal marijuana. I've seen it help people who were in excruciating pain. I won't judge anyone for it.
That being said, buying weed from your dealer is NOT medicinal marijuana. I smoked weed once or twice after I had major knee surgery and OMG, it helped the pain so much. That wasn't medicinal marijuana either.
However, I think there are much better options for pain management when you're pregnant. Taking a Vicodin or oxycodone once a week is much easier to track than smoking a bowl. You know EXACTLY what you're ingesting and exactly how much.

And, I don't think any dr would give a RX for weed to a pregnant woman- so it wouldn't be medical use anyway.

This sounds horrible and I'm really sorry if the Vicodin was a factor in your loss

  • Every person I know that has smoked pot not even semi-regularly has eventually quit because they got a stash that was laced with something (except for the one person who grows it his self). It has to be more common than you're saying.

  • As far as laced marijuana, I have never seen or had any laced pot in over 10 years of smoking. People just don't give away free drugs like that! I have had the advantage of living in states with medical marijuana laws and never came across a dispensary I didn't trust.

I started medical marijuana for migraines that nothing except opiates could help with and I never want to go down that road again. Luckily for me, my pregnancy has been migraine free. (Woohoo!!)

I wish more studies were out about the effects of marijuana and pregnancy. I've read very few, including one that was posted somewhere on TB (I think) about the study of women in Jamaica and the long term study of their children.

Marijuana can be natural and some natural remedies can be ok during pregnancy and some can't. It definitely has its benefits in the medical world!

Call me old fashioned, but I haven't as much as had a Tylenol during pregnancy. I'm prone to migraines and I had a massive migraine a few days ago and sucked it up. Cried a little bit, pressed my temples because it seems to help for some reason, drank cold water and went and laid in a dark silent room. I just don't believe in taking anything... Let alone opiates or pot... And I will also say that opiates are the worst thing I think anyone can take. They are ridiculously addictive, and to watch someone coming off of this addiction is terrible. I don't wish it on my worst enemy (to actually come down or watch someone close to them coming down off them).
Omg, I love you.  Totally agree.  I try to take as little medication as possible. Even during my WORST headaches, pains, etc.  I try to power through them and won't take anything.  Jaxx, I don't think you're really proving anything right now.

  • I would like to add though, that we live in a society dominated by popping pills at the first ache and pain.  There are other options besides drugs (prescription or otherwise). Just sayin.
But like Cash said, this is all recreational usage talk.

  • Yeah. This whole thing is making me feel all ragey. I don't smoke pot when I'm pregnant. I don't. It seems pretty hypocritical to me though that the same people who are bashing the idea of using pot while pregnant in any amount are the same folks who say drinking in moderation is ok. Just saying.
I side eye the smokers and the drinkers.

I haven't taken anything for my headaches either, before pregnancy I had a perscription for migraine prevention pills, if I felt one coming on I would take them and lay down, and about an hour later I felt as good as new.

ETA the perscription is unsafe during pregnancy so I can no longer take them but i haven't had any really bad ones yet

I agree with you, and sadly I think it's one of the reasons why there are so many people with opiate addictions. I won't say I've never taken them, because I had to when I had knee surgery. I don't think I would have survived without them. However I was responsible, and stopped taking them like a week later. My mother on the other had took over the rest of my pills and them found doctors and any pain in the book to get more... At some point her addiction was so bad that I had to go to a pharmacist with the list of meds and ask what has interactions because she was so fucked up. The pharmacist straight up told me that she doesn't know how my mother is still livings that usually people with this many and such strong meds are cancer patients... Sadly one thing leads to another and then the pains are phantom pains because you are so dependent on the drugs. Now don't get me wrong, I don't have issues with smoking pot here and there (when not prego) but I do have a major issue with opiate use.

Let me say this, I have not drank one sip of alcohol since I got pregnant, but I don't side eye someone for drinking a glass of wine a week. I used to smoke pot in my teens and that had a stronger effect on me than one glass of wine.
My point was the lack of scientific data about a safe level of usage. It's unknown, but my guess would be that one toke of pot once a week is probably pretty equivalent to one glass of wine a week.

  • @cashingn2 I will then admit that I definitely had a deli meat sandwich a couple of weeks ago, but I got it from jersey mikes, where they cut the meat and put it directly in the sandwich rather than sitting in a tub all day like subway :-) I don't judge on the Tylenol, I just know that 2 little Tylenol won't help me anyway, so there's no use in trying. My doctor told me before that he could write me out a prescription strength migraine reliever or I can just take 4 Advil. Sometimes even the Advil don't help (pre-pregnancy of course). It sucks. Actually had DH running worried a couple times lol
