Pregnant after IF

Headaches after stopping progesterone and estrace, anyone?

I started weaning off the PIO injections and estrace (per nurse's instructions) yesterday.  I've had a terrible headache that will not go away!  Went to bed with it, woke up with it.  I've tried water (I've increased my water intake since being pregnant--so thirsty!) I've tried food, walks, naps, cold compress, and nothing has helped!  (I won't take tylenol because of the little note on the "safe" medications list that says, "While there are no drugs that are guaranteed safe during pregnancy...")
Are my headaches due to weaning off the hormones?  Has anyone else experienced this?  If so, how long do the headaches last?

  • It may be a reaction to going off the hormones, or it may just be a function of where you are in your pregnancy. With increased blood volume, you can experience some pressure headaches, which are completely normal during pregnancy. I've noticed mine are especially bad when a weather front comes through.

My OB recommends a hot washcloth over the forehead, tylenol, or excedrin. It's up to you and your doctor to decide what remedies you feel comfortable with - you may want to give them a call to see what their opinion is. I hope you feel better soon!

  • Thanks.  Headache still here...I'll try the warm washcloth thing. Any other natural remedies are welcome!
  • I had terrible headaches around 12-14 weeks, and I am not a person who gets headaches usually.  Not sure if it was related to weaning off steroids or hormone levels or what.  I talked to my OB, she said it was really common at that point in preg.  She recommended caffeine, believe it or not!  If severe, could also take a Tylenol, too.

I did try the occasional coffee w/ some relief.
My headaches improved after a few weeks and haven't been a problem since.
