The part where she said she wouldn't bring the child back to you unless she was allowed to hit her is where I'd be tempted to tell her that she no longer has permission to have my child and I consider this a kidnapping situation and will be alerting the police.

I just walked in the door from a PTA meeting and cannot believe this is what I found. That's horrible!

I'm so glad E is so resilient and what a delight (her room makeover) after such a shitastic day. What a terrible situation now for your children- I'm sure they are going to feel utterly betrayed by their Grandparents. Ugh...

Sounds like a lot of damn overreacting.

Of course everyone was tired from traveling. I can even see MIL being tired/annoyed with the kids since she is not used to having them all day. It seems so odd to me to make such a F-ing hub-bub about that small of an incident.

I feel so sad for your DD. To be treated that way by her own grandmother and left that afraid is so wrong. I'm glad she's not worrying about it, though.

I'd go all kinds of crazy on my MIL if that happened to me. She told DS1 when he was copping an attitude with her once that she would have me "tan his ass" if he didn't speak to her properly. I was pissed enough about that, but it pales in comparison to your situation.
